Job Description Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, talented and experienced Power Systems & Drives Modelling Engineer to join GE Power Conversion’s Power Systems Engineering team.
As a member of a multi-disciplined team, the Power Systems & Drives Modelling Engineer will deliver, or develop to deliver detailed analysis of high power (MW scale) Marine, Naval or Industrial Power Systems. These systems will incorporate equipment including power generation, distribution, protection, conversion, storage, control and automation. The analysis will aid the assurance that the designs meet defined operational and customer requirements, or otherwise specific requirements including regulatory standards, class or grid codes.
Job Description
Key Competencies & Responsibilities
Technically conversant, experienced and an advanced user of MATLAB and Simulink with strong analytical and decision-making skills
Able to undertake detailed modelling, analysis and simulation of Power Systems, Power Electronic Converters and Machine Drive Systems
Support (and develop to support) detailed design and analysis reports including, but not limited to the following AC and DC systems:
Short Circuit Analysis
Transient & Stability Analysis
Resonance Analysis
Protection Co-ordination
Harmonic, EMC Analysis and Power Quality
Common Mode and Earth Fault Analysis
Load Flow
Track record and experience of producing detailed simulations and associated reports
Support the business and engineers in resolving technical aspects or issues on current projects, equipment under test, or in-service equipment
Support verification, validation & HIL testing of low voltage & medium voltage drive systems
Comply with all company and customer health and safety regulations
Excellent communication and report writing skills
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of a Batchelors Degree, Master’s degree or PhD in electrical engineering or applicable subject, with relevant experience
Chartered Engineer (or working to) and equivalent proven record of continuous professional development
Extant Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), or the ability to obtain BPSS is required for this role.
Desirable Requirements
Familiarity, or capability to use eTAP, PLECS, PSpice, Mathcad, CFD, etc.
Experience in Offshore, Naval or Industrial power system engineering in one or more fields, from power engineering HV / LV or electrical drive systems applications
The ability to obtain the higher levels of UK Security Clearance, including “SC Clearance” and “UK Eyes Only Clearance”, are desirable for this role
Circumstances
Willing to travel within base country and overseas for short-term working
Willing to work extended hours during the week, at weekends/holidays at critical times
Clean driving licence
