Job Description Summary

The Naval Equipment Cost Control Leader will be responsible for all sourcing cost control activities for equipment included in GE Power Conversion’s Naval programmes. They will be required to oversee pre and post contract cost control over all hardware and any sub-contract assembly work, mitigating cost increases and limiting scope creep in the supply chain. The role will liaise closely with Project Management, Engineering, Procurement and Quality teams to ensure the best overall outcome. The role will encompass technology transfer and build overseas, responsibility for any transferred hardware and the control of costs for the new sub-supply stay with this role, this may include travel overseas, most likely in S.Korea, North America and Australia in the following years.

The Naval Equipment Cost Control Leader reports directly to the Naval Business Director.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Full control of pareto hardware costs after initial Engineering/Procurement/ input across multiple Naval equipment.

  • Negotiations with and selection of suppliers and subcontractors for components and sub-assemblies

  • Input into supplier change recommendations from Engineering/Procurement

  • Co-ordination with other functions for project approval of subcontract manufacturer and management of resources and materials relating to subcontract manufacture

  • Proactive involvement in the product design, and change control processes


  • Relevant engineering degree (or equivalent experience)

  • Extensive experience of managing supply chains for low volume, capital electrical equipment, ideally electrical drive products for Naval applications.

  • Clear understanding of component cost drivers

  • Ability to assemble full RFQ packs and assess the responses

  • ERP system knowledge (SAP is critical), and Engineering systems including Siemens TeamCenter (PLM) and Windchill

  • Experience of working with both Engineering and Production to design cost out

  • Significant cost down/cost out experience

  • Strong communication skills

  • Autonomous, structured in approach, well organised

  • Strong leadership

  • Willing to travel within UK and overseas

  • Must hold current UK Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) level clearance or be eligible to receive it

Desired Characteristics

  • Knowledge of manufacturing of complex electro-mechanical products, ideally electrical drives.

  • Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects, adapts to changing circumstances, able to deal with ambiguity making positive use of the opportunities it presents.

  • Excellent written communication skills; writes clearly and succinctly to meet the needs and understanding of the intended audience.

Strong personal organisational skills; manages time effectively, monitors performance against deadlines and milestones, works productively in a pressurised environment
