Job Description Summary

The Control System Test Engineer will be part of the Rugby based Automation test team within GE Power Conversion. This team is responsible for the independent validation of products and systems developed within the GE Power Conversion development organisation

Job Description

Main responsibilities

  • Improve the quality of our products & systems by specifying, performing and documenting repeatable test scenarios

  • Validate complex networked control systems, components and associated engineering tools, typically utilized within the Marine Business sector

  • Setup equipment in Rugby to reproduce faults and issues reported by Customers and by other GE users to allow efficient resolution by the local development resources.

  • Liaise with our GE Power Conversion Chennai test team to co-ordinate a consistent approach for test processes, tools and documentation

  • Identify, assess and adopt test tools and processes to help automate and generally improve the efficiency and repeatability of testing.

  • Generate & maintain test specifications that can be used by others in the future to re-test the system.

Essential requirements

  • Qualification in computer Science, control systems or related technical field of study

  • Experience in the validation of software &/or hardware products

  • Creativity in terms of being able to test systems and products and to find their weaknesses and faults

  • Capable of a methodical approach, so that test cases and results can be repeated and audited.

  • Effective communication with stakeholders of varying levels of technical expertise.

  • Ability to write clear test records and documentation

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to take the lead to improve testing processes and capabilities

Desired characteristics

  • Knowledge of validation testing tools, test processes and industry best practices.

  • Understanding of control systems & network protocols

  • Knowledge of SDLC and software quality lifecycles with respect to testing
