Job Description Summary
Our automation and control systems team help customers to lower operating costs, reduce risk and accelerate operational performance by supporting optimized processes and energy usage. GE Power Conversion’s Dynamic Positioning system enables a vessel to maintain a predetermined heading and position, fixed or moving, by use of propulsion units to counteract the effects of displacing forces such as wind, current, and wave action.
In this role you will be responsible for all tasks related to software design, implementation and testing of Marine Automation and Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems for marine offshore and naval applications. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and you will:
Execute various controls software engineering activities for delivery of compliant automation and dynamic positioning (DP) systems from the receipt of an order to handover to the customer.
Plan and execute all engineering activities to ensure projects attain on-time delivery, cost and quality targets. Including testing and documentation.
Provide a technical interface to various stakeholders (customers, marine classification societies and suppliers) and the sales, commissioning, and service teams.
Perform the functional design of HMI, PLC Architecture, Networks and Communications interfaces using standard hardware and software components
Write PLC code using IEC 61131-3 complaint programming languages. i.e. Ladder diagram (LD), Function block diagram (FBD), Structured text (ST), Instruction list (IL) and Sequential function chart (SFC)
Design, implement and test automation process mimics using HMI SCADA packages
Work with the Drawing Office to produce equipment drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, cable interconnection drawings and interface schedules etc.
We are looking for an professional with:
A degree level in Controls and Systems Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, (or equivalent)
Knowledge and experience of implementing PLC Programming (IEC61131 Function Block, Ladder, Structured text, etc.), and HMI/SCADA Systems Programming
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols e.g. Modbus (RTU/TCP IP), Profibus, Profinet etc.
Experience of control and instrumentation, mechanical and electrical packaging for automation systems
