Job Description Summary
Industrial Communications Technology Leader, reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will lead the R&D team for GE Industrial Communications (MDS Wireless, Lentronics Optical Multiplexers and Reason Switches). Responsibilities include technology strategy, competitive analysis, multi-generational product planning, New Product Introduction, material cost out, and product design quality. Also responsible for: staffing, program planning, budgeting, and program execution.
Manage high-performance global teams, focused on innovation, new product design/development, and product cost-out for Industrial Communications.
Within the scope of the R&D activity, develop and implement operational processes ensuring achievement of objectives, repeatable processes, and continuous improvement
Develop, maintain and communicate a set of operating indicators reflecting the activity and quality of the R&D organization.
Develop a platform vision and detailed NPI requirements for new product platforms (architectures, packaging, electronics and software) to lower the costs of the R&D activity
Plan and execute New Product Introductions on-time, to specification, and at or below budgeted costs
Lead the creation of multi-year technology roadmap
Support Supply Chain and Service teams in technical issues regarding the manufacture and support of these products and drive cost-out & quality improvements
Work with Product Management to develop Multi-Generational Product Plans based on the strategic direction of the business, ensuring that it supports business alignment, increased profitability, and provides a sound, flexible foundation for rapid future growth
Manage department level budget, includes project and non-project activities
Qualifications / Requirements:
BS in Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in product design, development, and technical management
Demonstrated leadership/management of global teams
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate & empower others
Proven ability to manage projects and manage competing priorities
Knowledge of Telecommunication and Industrial markets including Oil and Gas and Electric Utilities
Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma, Design for Reliability and New Product Introduction processes
Ability to influence and gain commitment at all organizational levels and across functions
Experience communicating with executives and senior leaders
Experience communicating voice of customer to the broader organization
Extensive background in the development of communication products
Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
Knowledge base of global product compliance (IEEE, FCC, CE)
