General Electric Senior Test Automation Engineer in Rochester, New York

Role Summary:The Senior Test Automation Engineer demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities:As the Senior Test Automation Engineer, you will:

  • Develop formal test plans based on published product requirements and applicable standards

  • Develop / document detailed test procedures and design hardware / software to execute those tests

  • Provide technical expertise and design input to other teams

  • Verify and validate new tests, test systems and solutions

  • Create / perform automated and manual tests, interpret results and de-bug

  • Develop and release automated product testing for product assurance

  • Maintain, modify, re-factor automated tests using LabView

  • Log, document and work with engineering to identify and correct product defects

  • Generation of test reports and results as well as assistance with some product documentation

  • Utilize advanced tools in the areas of electronics, RF, network analysis, and security

  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to accomplish tasks

  • Ability provide direct customer support both prior to and after installation to model or reproduce and troubleshoot unique configurations and applications

  • As part of the testing and validation, follows engineering processes, practices, and procedures

  • Perform rough estimates of time required to resolve issues, helping the task prioritization process

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or similar

  • Minimum of 7 years in a quality assurance role, either manufacturing quality assurance or product assurance test engineering

  • Minimum of 3 years test automation using LabView

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with testing networking devices (routers, access points, switches) and radios

  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, SNMP, telnet, SSH, HTTP, DHCP, and Ethernet bridging

  • Network testing development including Routing, Radius, VPN, VRRP, Firewall rules

  • Experience with requirements analysis

  • Work in an Agile process environment with elements of Scrum, Kanban using JIRA

  • CCNA Training / Certification

  • Use of DOORS for product requirements traceability

  • Knowledge of SCADA protocols such as Modbus and DNP3

  • Knowledge and experience using GEMDS products, their features, and how to configure and test complex customer configurations – including backward compatible operations

  • Ability to take ownership of small tasks and deliver without supervision while using their discretion to seek help when necessary

  • Adaptability to new environments and changing requirements

  • Ability to pivot quickly as needed

  • Responds to need and seeks information from other sources

  • Unyielding commitment to product quality and customer satisfaction

  • Knowledge of formal design principles and development processes

  • Ability to take ownership of small tasks and deliver without supervision while using their discretion to seek help when necessary

  • Good written and oral communication skills in English, ability to explain technical concepts at a level appropriate for the audience
