Job Description Summary

This role sits in the Commercial Operations team for Australia & New Zealand, reporting to the Commercial Director ANZ, within GE’s Asia Pacific regional Onshore Wind Energy business unit.

The purpose of the Commercial Leader is to develop commercial positions, internally and with our customers, that facilitate closing profitable and executable orders for the supply, installation and long-term operation of wind turbines and associated equipment on wind farm projects. You will have a focus on the Australian and New Zealand markets, with potential extension into targeted countries in the region.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop winning strategies to close profitable and executable orders for the highly driven Onshore Wind segment of the Renewables industry.

  • Mobilise and lead multifunctional and global support teams to implement transaction strategy on complex, multi-million-dollar transactions.

  • Internal functions coordinated beyond the Commercial Operations team in this process comprise Manufacturing, Sourcing, Finance, Legal, EHS, Engineering and Project Delivery (inclusive of Scheduling, Cost Estimation, Project Management) as well as Maintenance Services.

  • Lead the preparation and submission of customer bids/proposals, contract negotiations, and deal closing, covering equipment supply, EPC, and long-term service contracts. Includes liaison with contracts team responsible for subcontracts supporting balance of plant construction scope.

  • Manage internal and external stakeholders in the process to achieve satisfaction of due diligence process and documentation compilation to achieve financial close and order intake.

  • Manage and co-ordinate handover from the commercial proposals phase to project execution phase.

  • Provide commercial support to the Onshore Wind sales team for budgetary proposals and studies during opportunity development, as well as supporting database management.

  • Provide or co-ordinate technical, profitability, and commercial inputs to support GE’s Risk Management process and ad-hoc bid strategy and decision meetings.

  • Support achievement of Commercial Team metrics related to proposal transactions

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Law, or a relevant commercial discipline. (Postgraduate degree in addition is highly regarded, for example MBA).

  • Working experience with power generation project (ideally wind power) commercial structures and the value drivers for development, investment, and operation.

  • Demonstrated experience in bid preparation and contract negotiation for turnkey (EPC) or similar scope power plant projects, ideally in wind energy.

  • Demonstrated experience in project management and execution for thermal or renewable power plant projects, including an understanding of construction and operational issues associated with these types of projects.

  • Ability to take the lead in negotiations, understand relevant technical issues, deploy effective problem-solving skills, and exercise sound commercial initiative and judgement.

  • Demonstrated evidence of successful commercial performance in an international matrix management structure.

  • Ability to perform effectively in a non-hierarchical, team type environment.

  • Ability to travel as required domestically with some international travel in the Asia Pacific region.

  • Fluency in English language. Strong written language skills including ability to develop proposal content and contractual provisions in a structured and concise manner.

  • Must hold the appropriate eligibility, at date of application, to work in Australia (i.e. Permanent Resident of Australia or an Australian Citizen or New Zealand Citizen).

  • Experience in customer relationship management, order process management and use of risk management/compliance systems.

  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills that facilitate collaboration and understanding, able to interact at all organizational levels.

  • Innovative, flexible, and persistent approach to overcoming challenges and recognizing commercial opportunities.

  • Understanding of commercial risk management around global supply chains and logistics.

  • Some exposure to energy storage & electricity grid technologies and other forms of renewable energy generation may be advantageous.

  • Highly motivated team player, self-starter with strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
