General Electric Lead BoP Civil Engineer - Wind Farms ANZ in Richmond, Australia

Role Summary:The primary responsibility of the Lead BoP Civil Engineer is to ensure the technical integrity of the wind farm projects including compliance with the project scope (civil), project specifications, accepted good engineering practices, project schedule and overall budget. The Lead Civil Engineer will also support operational wind farms for specific activities associated with access roads, foundations, repair and replacement programs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Execute the civil design analysis & reviews, or evaluation of assigned individual and team projects using sound civil engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

  • Review of civil drawing and documentation submissions from customers and subcontractors against contractual obligations, industry standards, safety compliance and best practice.

  • Develop, Specify, Plan and Agree deliverables for Engineering activities.

  • Ensure that the engineering activities are implemented from the initial definition of customer requirements, planning the works through to the final handover to the client.

  • Develop Improvements to Civil Engineering activities.

  • Interpret contractual specifications to produce design specifications.

  • Develop conceptual civil design requirements for customer.

  • Identify and ensure equipment is designed in accordance with the current Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.

  • Identify improvements in existing civil scope, procedures and processes and develop cost effective solutions to satisfy specifications.

  • Communicate design specifications for interpretation by designers.

  • Contribute to design reviews including materials and environmental reviews.

  • Prepare and/or check drawings and calculations undertaken by designers and peers in support of design.

  • Ensure all engineering activities and documents are correctly archived. Maintains a clean and safe working environment.

  • Contribute to field support as required.

  • Contribute to customer and vendor queries as required.

  • Provide technical leadership to personnel/ cross functional teams supporting the assigned project.

  • Implement plans with guidance to meet technical requirements of assigned components and systems.

  • Develop action plans with guidance to respond to issues/ problems.

  • Lead or participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues.

  • Recommend, with guidance, the approach to meet the technical and program requirements.

  • Participate and present or review in technical and program reviews.

  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

  • Ensure civil deliverables required to be submitted are provided in a timely, safe and high-quality manner.

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure civil issues are resolved in a timely manner.

  • Liaise with and support site based personnel.

  • Undertake site inspections to ensure compliance to design and industry standards.

  • Assess Variations, Requests for Information (RFIs) and payment claims.

  • Attend and provide input to various safety, design, technical and risk meetings, workshops and reviews.

  • Review tender specifications.

  • Support the tendering process to develop new business in energy projects.

  • Preparation of tenders and offers in line with customers technical/ administrative requirements furnished in tender/requirements/needs.


  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering.

  • At least 3 years of experience in a Civil Engineering position.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Due to international business contacts, attendance at out of hours’ teleconferences may be required.

  • Infrequent travel may be required for short periods of time.

  • Proven ability to prepare high quality reports suitable for senior management and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact and negotiate with all levels of staff (Senior Leaders, Team Leaders and Employees).

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement innovative solutions and an open mind for new challenges.

  • Proficient in a range of general computer software packages.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

  • Established project management skills.

  • Experience with Concrete / Foundation design and construction of wind farms highly valued.

  • Post Graduate Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • CPEng, if not working towards.
