General Electric Field Operations Manager in Richmond, Australia

Role Summary:The Field Operations Manager will have the direct responsibility for project site operations and execution (site management, installation and commissioning) from the proposal phase through to customer acceptance in GE’s Onshore Wind business in Australia and New Zealand.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead by EHS culture change by integrating safety from project execution planning through to executing projects.

  • Define WBS/ budgets for project execution.

  • Develop and deliver on project resources plan and strategy (Site Management, WTG Installation and Commissioning staff/contractors).

  • Participate in the review of contracts/ sub-contracts involving cranage/ installation and commissioning crews.

  • Help/cooperate with Project Managers/Project Directors to deliver wind farm projects.

  • Define, develop, document and roll our processes which will allow teams to capture and apply lessons learned on installation and commissioning productivities on projects.

  • Support project reviews.

  • Independently Review weekly and monthly project progress reports and provide inputs/advise to the Head of Project Operations Australia.

  • Support ITO/Pre-Contracts and the estimating mgr./team for estimating the scope.

  • Work with project managers to ensure that they have tools, processes and the right/relevant staff/contractors to ensure timely mechanical completion and commissioning/SCADA scope/activities.

  • Support on all crane and rigging related technical information and evaluation.

  • Ensure all inspection reports and checklists are completed and are accurate.

  • Drive reduction in COQ on all projects in Australia.

  • Support EHS implementation and GE’s best practices on safety across all project sites.

  • Drive excellence in schedule, cost and quality across projects during bidding and execution.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering or Construction Management and/or Business).

  • Minimum 15 years of contract or project management experience in the power or construction industry.

  • Demonstrated track record of working with and/or managing site based construction multi-discipline projects in Australia/ New Zealand in the process industrial, power generation, oil & gas and/or Wind Energy industry sectors.

  • Extensive knowledge of equipment Supply and Services contracts and turnkey EPC contracts and subcontracts.

  • Fluency in English with strong written and oral communication skills

  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills with the ability to influence others

  • Ability to manage/direct several projects simultaneously

  • Ability to travel throughout Australia

  • Appropriate entitlement to work in Australia (Permanent Resident or an Australian Citizen or New Zealand Citizen)

Desired Characteristics:OEM, Developer, or EPC Project experience with wind turbine-based power generation.
