Job Description Summary
In pursuit of accelerating the energy transition and recognizing the grid's significance in this transformation, GE Vernova is introducing Grid Orchestration, an initiative aimed at realizing the grid of the future. We are seeking a skilled Data Scientist – Power Systems to design and develop advanced machine learning-enabled engineering analytics for distribution and transmission systems. Operating within a mission-driven, disruptive innovation, agile, and fast-paced culture, you will actively participate in highly complex global projects and innovative customer engagements, necessitating a profound understanding of both GE Vernova's products and customers' operational environments. As a vital member of the Grid of the Future, Grid Orchestration team, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in driving GE Grid Orchestration initiatives pertaining to power systems research and software development. The ideal candidate should possess extensive experience and knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), with a proven track record of implementing AI/ML techniques in power grids.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Conduct research, prototype, and develop advanced machine learning-enabled software applications for distribution and transmission power grids. These applications may include steady state and dynamics power system analytics.
Lead the research and evaluation of existing and emerging technology, standards, products and markets. You will operate as both a team member and Individual contributor, serving as a subject matter and technical expert.
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams on the development of use cases, business cases, user flows, functional and non-functional requirements, value mapping, roadmaps, product specifications, work estimate and sizing, and delivery plans.
Perform machine learning-enabled research and analysis related to distribution power grid, including microgrid, distributed renewable resources (DERs), battery energy storage systems, electric vehicle, demand response, using data from advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), SCADA, or distribution phasor measurement units (PMUs).
Provide support for continuous development of transmission and distribution software products associated with distribution automation, DERs management, state estimation, operation and dispatch optimization, and more.
Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing detailed written reports or presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions.
Enhance industry knowledge and present technical content in regional forums and conferences, establishing yourself as a thought leader in industry activities.
Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are highly valued.
Education Qualification
Master’s Degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or electric power engineering, specifically in the computer and electric power engineering field with minimum 3 years of data science working experience.
3+ years of experience and knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), including, unsupervised learning, supervised learning, and reinforcement learning, large language models (LLMs). Proven experience in applying AI/ML techniques to distribution and transmission power grids.
3+ years of research or industry experience with simulation using scientific programming tools or languages, such as MATLAB, C++, C#, or Python. Proficiency in performing unbalanced, multi-phase power flow and dynamic analysis using distribution system simulation tools, like OpenDSS, or ETAP, as well as transmission simulation tools like PSS/E, PSLF, and DSA Tools .
Desired Characteristics:
Ph.D. Degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or electric power engineering, specifically in the computer and electric power engineering field with minimum 5 years of data science working experience.
Advanced experience in utilizing and applying common programming languages, such as Python, C/C++, Java, Spark and Hadoop, R Programming, Kafka, C#, MATLAB, along with good familiarity with power system modeling and data communication format, such as Common Information Model (CIM), IEC 61850, IEEE C37.118, and others.
Proven experience as a power system engineering with expert knowledge of power system models, model validation and calibration algorithm or process, steady state, transient, and dynamics analysis.
Industry reputation, prior IEEE/CIGRE published articles related to practical power systems engineering topics, participation in industry standards, working groups, or task forces.

The salary range for this position is 88,880.00 - 111,100.00 USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for [a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity].
