Job Description Summary
Drive quality for assigned suppliers, including quality plan implementation. Select suppliers through qualification processes. Own supplier results, drive improvements utilizing supplier scorecards. Own supplier audits, ensuring compliance, and driving improvement plans where needed. Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market. The Senior Technical Leader - Supplier Quality - Offshore Wind will work closely with Offshore Wind Sourcing, Design Engineering, Product Service Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management and Installation team, and the Global Supplier Quality team on all activity required to effectively support supplier quality requirements for assigned wind turbine commodities and suppliers. Focus will be on offshore specific components, with focus on Composites/Blades with support also to Mechanical parts. In this role, you will:
Roles and Responsibilities
As the Senior Technical Leader - Supplier Quality Engineering Offshore, you will:
Develop and lead Qualification plans, process / product verification efforts, quality system audits and supplier surveillance program.
Lead process improvement efforts using GE Renewable Energy Quality systems, tools and procedures to drive process quality improvements and leverage statistical tools for evaluation of process capability on critical-to-quality (CTQ) part / component characteristics.
Participate in supplier technical offer reviews meetings, approval process and internal NPI (New Product Introduction) process.
Assure quality through approval of Manufacturing Process Plan (MPP), Product and Process Quality Plan (PQP), product quality reviews, verification of quality documentation, monitoring of compliance and qualification completion.
Address Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) reduction based on customer, assembly shop and site feedback and incorporate key customer critical-to-quality parameters in supplier processes
Ensure quality consistency and reduce variation in processes through First Piece Qualification, pilot lot approvals during 0-Series with ongoing serial production and Production Part Approval, targeting zero escaping defects.
Coordinate initiation and resolution of Supplier Deviation Requests (SDR’s), material substitutions and quality control reviews on non-conformances at supplier facility and/or wind farm sites.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA), FMEA (Failure Mode & Effect Analysis) for process improvement, and preventive / corrective action as required.
Audit to ensure compliance on global Supplier Quality and Sourcing processes, promoting APQP4Wind disciplines.
Assist SQEs and key suppliers towards industrial standards of excellence. Serve as best practice/quality resource, contributing towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
Lead read-across global activities, prior failure analysis (PFA) update and special process activities for welding, coating and/or NDT disciplines.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant technical field from an accredited university or college
Fluent English – capable to lead technical conference calls, read drawings and procedures in English
10+ year previous experience in Supplier Quality or Manufacturing Process Quality (preferably with composites components and having mechanical background)
Ability to work in cross functional and global team environments
Ability and willingness to travel 40% as required
Master’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
Experience working with composites and mechanical wind components and/or related processes experience working with suppliers in high quality serial production volume, in a built to spec and built to print environments.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; RCA methods, 8D.
Demonstrated leadership, influencing and organizational skills.
Strong Auditing and Quality Management experience.
Ability to work in a cross-functional and global team environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain and deal with complexity, including reporting to senior leadership.
Lean Six Sigma trained and certified or equivalent quality training and certification.
Experience on Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
Experience with APQP quality assurance tools and PPAP: Process Capability, Measurement Systems Analysis, Error Proofing, Statistical Process Control and FMEA.
Quality training and/or related work experience (ISO 9001, IATF16949).
Demonstrated program management, technical aptitude and a passion for quality.
Strong experience in coating and critical composites manufacturing processes.
Highly motivated and results oriented.
Demonstrated fast response and experienced in turn-around projects execution.
Coaching expertise across different SQE teams and other functions.
