General Electric Engineering Cyber Security Leader in Remote, Maryland

Job Description Summary

The Engineering Security Leader (ESL) leads the cybersecurity aspects during Technical Tendering and Order to Remittance (OTR) processes on its scope and coordinate with Tendering and Projects Teams.

This role is responsible to lead the security aspects on Technical Tendering and OTR on its scope, coordinating with and supporting Regions Teams (RFQ, Projects, FAT/SAT). This role overviews projects’ security aspects including Customer requirements and project Security Assurance Plan. The ESL will contribute to reference architectures and standardized interfaces between Product Lines.

The ESL will report to the ACS Global Project Engineering & Product Management Leader and will be part of the Cyber Security team under the leadership of the Grid Solutions’ Cybersecurity Leader.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Review any RFQ’s that touch on Cyber Security or could potentially have an impact on Cyber Security. List recommendations on how to proceed and list any clarifications or exceptions we might take to the bid concerning Cyber Security, using GE and GE RE Policies, coordinating with relevant teams (GS, RE, Legal).

  • Assist in creating an architecture reference and other standard templates that could be used for Inquiry to Order (ITO) proposals that require Cyber Security such as Onshore/Offshore wind projects/Substation projects.

  • Assist in creating the Security Assurance Plan (SAP) for all projects which require it, be able to discuss it with relevant teams in GE and with the Customer.

  • Assist in creating the Functional Design Spec (FDS) for the cyber security system which would also define the architecture being implemented. In conjunction work with other internal and external entities, including the customer to ensure the overall Cyber security design is cohesive and requirements are well understood.

  • Develop detailed test plan and procedures to verify the cyber security functions and features.

  • Assist with configuring the Cyber security devices (Switches, hubs, servers, Jump box, etc.)

  • Globally Responsible for the tracking of security execution for AC Systems projects, reports to GS Cybersecurity Leader, including Incident and Vulnerability Management according to GE policies

  • Develop and conduct relevant security training for various internal audience, such as product managers, software engineers and technical support

  • Ability to travel domestically & internationally as required for the role.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology from an accredited university

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in project security, preferably in an Operational Technology (OT) environment

Desired Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of cyber security standards and regulations affecting the utilities industry, such as IEEE 1686, IEC 62351, and those from NIST and DHS

  • Demonstrated experience with the application of NERC CIP and/or IEC 62443 standards in large projects

  • Ability to work effectively in a team and across functions, partnering with other teams in a worldwide environment

  • Pro-activeness, sense of urgency, resistance to pressure, autonomy; ability to interact with multiple functions and teams worldwide

  • Fluent English speaking and writing mandatory

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Cyber security certification (ex. ISC2, SANS, ISACA, CISSP)
