General Electric Construction Manager - Mechanical in Remote, India

Job Description Summary

As a member of C&C Team, you will be responsible to manage the quality, budget and schedule for the Mechanical package assigned to him/her during the execution of the Project from take-over to hand-over.

Execution of erection works related to Mechanical package, compliance with Safety , Quality and delivery including time schedule.

Coordination with the Site Manager and other functional leads . Supervision of all issues related to the scope of the Mechanical package works and interfaces with other works including implementation of GE SQDC Model including EHS policy and site specific EHS plans .

Provide stake holders / co-workers with information about hazards, risks and risk mitigation measures [ RAMS ] applicable to the site, ensuring within the scope of the Mechanical discipline works that subcontractors are in compliance with the EHS / Quality requirements at project site.

This is Fixed Term Contract role for 1 Year.

Job Description

Principal/ Operational duties:-

  • Represent the Project and the organization towards customers and subcontractors, on site and lead all site activities performed by the organization and subcontractors through a proper Daily Management System (word “daily” to be understood as Daily, Weekly, Bi- weekly, monthly, and so on, as applicable based on nature of work).

  • Responsible for the whole scope of site works , completion of Facilities , COF and final acceptance followed by site close out.

  • Construction Manager serves as a member of the Project Team, with accountability for Safety, schedule (Delivery), Quality and Cost for all jobsite activities in line with the contractual obligations of the project.

  • Lead a team of site engineers and managers and ensure that direct reports are properly trained and receive the support needed to perform their duties. Coordinate support from (Site manager / PCCM) if needed.

Your Role:

Safety: -

  • Accountable to the Director of EHS for implementing the organization’s EHS Policy and Management Systems at the site and for ensuring that established rules, safe working practices, and local laws and regulations are adhered. Report all accidents, near misses and deviations and non-compliances with the applicable Safety Directives to Site / EHS Manager.

  • Implement remedial measures to reduce or eliminate unsafe acts and conditions. This responsibility also includes informing, instructing and ensuring site staff training in safer methods of work and investigating eventual accidents.

  • Ensure that Risk assessment and method statements (RAMS) are prepared/ implemented for all high-risk jobs & Critical Lifts.

  • TBT , PTW and PoWRA to be done early at project sites under your participation/ supervision.

  • Construction Managers must attend the TBT on Daily Basis.

  • GENBA walk down through Site Manager with respective leads to be done every week and all Corrective Actions against the concerns raised in the Leadership walk down to be closed ASAP.


  • Manage the RFI process (TQ – Technical Query List ) with site subcontractors and ensure issuance of proper TIR’s (Technical Issue resolution) through Engineering, if required, to obtain additional information, document , additional cost or delay, or initiate back charges to sub-contractor’s.

  • Implementation of quality control and inspection procedures as required by the contract and approved quality assurance plan(FQP).

  • Implementation of DMS- Daily management system, Nonconformance cost (NCC ) and Cost Of Poor Quality (CoPQ) at site

  • Ensure all work is constructed in accordance with quality assurance plan, standard, codes and good industry practice.

  • Manage traceability record and ensure all protocol/records are maintained in accordance with quality assurance plan.

  • Ensure timely submission of RA Bills to client with relevant documents required.

  • Manage and monitor inspection on completion , preparation , final check list/ punch list and completion of any remedial works.

  • Ensure TQs / NCR's are raised for all supply / Vendor Quality issues in Fabrication and Materials delivered to site .


  • Liaison with site Manager to establish construction philosophy to ensure maximization of project profitability within safety , environmental and quality parameters, including construction techniques, industrial relation philosophy and local subcontracting/fabrication opportunities.

  • Lead by example in terms of enthusiasm commitment and work ethics in the performance of / duties as a construction manager.

  • Encourage the team to drive continuous improvements and lean construction methodologies through out the project.

  • Manage and implement the construction plans, programs, resource plans and P & M.

  • Monitor Cranes cost at construction sites by maintaining log sheets and actual assessment of crane requirement at site.

  • Establish/ Manage a site organization in cooperation with site Manager/PCCM, In accordance with the Construction Execution Plan and Commissioning Execution Plan of the project.

  • Resolve site operational problems as required. (lack of productivity, work interfaces etc.).

  • Set up a transparent site accounting system and establish the site financial forecast in collaboration with Site Manager/PCCM.

  • overall responsible for scheduling / coordination at site / tracking and monitoring of progress (Plan Vs Actual), Manhours worked and man hour cost.

  • Maintain the site portion of the Project schedule covering construction and commissioning activities. Follow up site works, verify progress and report on schedule progress as per the established reporting cycles.

  • Planning at Microlevel through preparation of L3 / L4 level schedules , for easy monitoring of all packages in the project .

  • communicate openly and effectively: Coordinate and produce the construction and commissioning input to the Monthly Progress report in a timely manner. Issue the Daily, weekly site report to inform the Project Team and functional department about progress, issues and other relevant site matters as applicable.

  • Organize and participate in work-based team activities.

  • Implementation and management of daily weather and rainfall records.

  • Review / verify and approval of all sub-contractor progressive bills.

  • Ensure Safe Transport of Materials on site and ensure proper material stacking as per GE Standards and all packing lists to be maintained.

  • Monitor and manage subcontractor performance up to project close out, including warranty obligations, to drive fulfillment of subcontractor commitments, achieve proactive risk and opportunity management, provide accurate representation of status, and address non-conformance issues with corrective strategies. Keep functional management and the Project Team informed of status, performance implications and recommended actions.

  • Conduct and represent meetings internally and externally with all stakeholders on behalf of GE as needed and authorized.

  • Manage/ motivate and encourage the team responsible for site operations.


  • The overall management and leadership of the GE site staff.

  • Developing a Site Safety Culture during execution stage of the project.

  • Executing the project within the site portion of the construction budget.

  • Achieving all major milestones within the site schedule.

  • Performance assessments of all site staff including contract staff.

  • Maintaining an intensive customer relationship and a high level of customer satisfaction.

  • Has to ensure that " No Labor Unrest " at sites , more over need to control the construction Cost , production losses , Time etc., through close monitor of sub-contractor billing and claims.

  • Closeout of all site subcontracts with fair and proper allocation of costs, minimizing impact to GE.

  • Development , Motivation and Assessment of construction Team , colleagues in the Group , supporting / Supervising staff and Resources at site as per the requirement.

  • Maintaining and enhancing the professional image and reputation of GE at all times.

Basic Qualifications(requirements):

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering appropriate to the technical activity involved. 12-15 years’ experience in construction site and at least 5 years as a construction manger and equivalent role

Desired Qualification

Nice to have candidate with Knowledge and experience of Power Plant, capacity 600/660 MW or more including Power Plant water steam system process knowledge.

Good Communication skills

Excellent capabilities in the explanation of complex technical and working processes.

Interpersonal and responsive skills

Strong negotiation skills.
