Job Description

A Nuclear Project Manager (PM) in GE Steam Power Americas Nuclear is a critical function directly engaged with internal and external customers and delivering safe, quality, on time, profitable outage execution on both GE’s nuclear installed base of steam turbines, generators, and balance-of-plant components as well as on Other OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) equipment. This demanding role will require you to function effectively in a matrixed and fluid environment

Who You Are:

You are someone who will:

  • Drive safe, quality execution through personal example and team leadership expectations through clear expectations-setting and physical presence in the work area.

  • Be organized and thorough, technically astute, self-motivated, and proactive in this critical role.

  • Lead preparation and planning efforts pre-outage: either receiving handover of planning from the assigned Outage Manager (OM) - including JCEs, Load Boards, Vendor POs, drawings, etc. - or self-performing planning activities for project execution. Lead or coordinate with the assigned OM for post-outage close out of assigned nuclear outages additionally working with various Customer Service Managers (CSMs).

  • Actively lead on-site outage / project execution to achieve maximum success – deliver: technical quality guidance, financial responsibility in Extra Work identification and capture; rigorous cost control; schedule attentiveness; prompt and effective communications, and build relationships of respect with customers and team while protecting GE Intellectual Property.

  • Perform site installation of systems and equipment and preventive maintenance, repair, and calibration post-installation. Respond to requests for emergent support in repairs and equipment challenges.

  • Ensure implementation of best practices and lessons learned into project preplanning and outage activities across resourcing effectiveness and efficiency, tooling, parts, lessons learned and innovation incorporation.

  • Perform administrative coordination in assuring: time sheets are correct and submitted on time: project expenses are managed with responsible stewardship; outage reports are written well and completed on time; materials – parts, consumables, office supplies - are ordered and utilized as intended, vendor quotations requested and processed; work packages are rigorously reviewed to be practical, functional, and inclusive; Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) practices and procedures are understood and followed, safety messages are distributed from other sites and shared with other sites via Rapid Lessons Learned; safety incidents are tracked in GenSuite; and non-conformances are recorded in ServiceNow NCRs.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop Field personnel to grow their respective skill sets; challenge and nurture them.

  • Optimally: where an outage is deemed “complex”, due to substantial project scope (for example: upgrades, liquid cooled stator rewinds, integrated solutions, etc.) actively contribute to the entire ITR (Inquiry to Remittance) process.

  • Potentially temporarily cover for CSMs in assigned sub-region as directed by Service Director (SD) to support CSMs through availability constraints, overload conditions, and similar circumstances.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to lower costs and reduce outage durations – including contributing to identification of, development and verification of, and leveraging productivity initiatives.

  • Solicit customer feedback to improve performance and customer relationships.

  • Support CSMs with implementation of Long-Term-Asset-Management (LTAM) processes with our customers based on outage scope and performance gaps identified through customer engagement.

Your Role:

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assure timely and accurate development of outage quotes including work scope, load board, tooling, high-level Critical Path (CP) schedule, customer site factors, risk assessment and mitigations and Job Cost Estimates (JCEs)

  • Assure timely and accurate outage planning including resource assignments (field engineers, craft labor, specialty services), detailed CP schedule development, tooling, customer management, mobilization / demobilization profiles, safety, and Human Performance programs.

  • Lead onsite execution to ensure progress is on track, identify opportunities to improve outcomes and support site execution team to address issues

  • Actively monitor outage progress and reports (Daily Outage Report – DOR) to ensure all scope or schedule changes and/or impacts are identified, assessed, documented, and incorporated into the schedule; assist in formally reconciling scope and schedule

  • Support CSMs on technical communication to customer staff during outage execution and issue management

  • Engage swiftly in GE response to forced outages / emergency support on site as needed, support on-site as needed, manage response approach as conditions change

  • Support post-outage activities, including post-outage critiques, lessons learned, configuration updates, outage reports, recommendations for future outages, and feedback to ITO functions.

  • Participate in planning activities with CSMs and OMs related to off-site scope, including parts, major components for major upgrade / repair scopes

  • Contribute to initiatives to establish standards (scope, schedule, and activity-level-manloading, durations, tooling and costs) for bidding and executing outages

  • Contribute to initiatives to reduce costs and durations associated outage activities and improve the competitiveness of standards used in bidding and executing future work

  • Support Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) of significant cost and duration deviations from baseline plans

  • Be able to pass background check as part of holding an access badge to a nuclear power plant

  • Be in sufficient health and fitness to tolerate heat, climb stairs, access equipment, correctly utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in science / engineering and minimum of 8 years of specialized / industry experience in nuclear steam turbine, generator, and auxiliary system outage planning and execution in a leadership role; or equivalent of +10 years of experience in the nuclear power generation industry with demonstrated success/knowledge of steam turbine and generator installation and/or maintenance and team leadership.

  • English proficiency required

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong technical and maintenance knowledge of steam turbines and/or generators and/or controls

  • Strong Project Management and planning skills (Primavera scheduling tool preferred)

  • PC proficiency, web applications including advanced Excel skills

  • Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and with external customers – demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills and influencing skills

  • Strong team leader in dynamic, energetic, and complex customer site environments

  • Ability to work under high pressure and time constraints, committed and process-oriented

  • Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously and effectively in a cross-functional team

  • Ability to proactively recognize risks and mitigate/eliminate them; adapt to changing circumstances

  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as required by field assignments

  • Management accounting and GE specific accounting practices and operating rhythm – business acumen

The salary range for this position is $94,000.00 - $156,000.00 USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for variable incentive compensation.
