General Electric Staff Software Engineer in Queretaro, Mexico

We are building up a new software engineering team in Queretaro, Mexico, and we are looking for two experienced Staff Software Engineers to help us design and develop components and systems that are world-class.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Own large sized tasks or small projects, being responsible for defining, developing, and evolving software in a fast paced and agile development environment

  • Provide technical leadership to other team members. One of the positions will be the SW Development technical leader of the team and will also help the area manager with strategic plays to enhance the team’s performance and technical depth

  • Mentor and coach mid-career and junior team members

  • Work with Product Line Leaders (PLLs) to understand product requirements and vision, and have the ability to translate these into a prioritized list of user stories and deliver to required timelines and quality standards

  • Work with PLLs and architects to develop multi generation software technology plans

  • Engage in technical discussions; participate in technical designs and effectively present technical ideas

  • Understand the product, its modules, and the interrelationship between them while being an expert in the assigned component or module

  • Drive increased efficiency across teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse

  • Proactively identify and drive process improvements which guide the development, sustaining and support activities

  • Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile Scrum, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring and testing techniques

  • Be an expert in writing code that meets standards and delivers the desired functionality using the technology selected for the project

  • Be an expert in assessing application performance and optimizing/improving it through design and best coding practices

  • Proactively engage global subject matter experts in successful transfer of complex domain knowledge

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

  • Expert in Structured and Object-Oriented analysis, design and development, Software patterns, and one or more of the following languages Java, C# or C++ Experience with version control systems (SVN, GIT, branching, merging etc.)

  • Experienced with principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring and Testing Techniques

  • Expert in breaking down problems and estimate time for development tasks

  • Skilled in providing oversight and mentoring team members. Shows ability to effectively delegate work

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills both in Spanish and English

  • Good ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity

  • Able to legally work in Mexico

Desired Characteristics:

  • 8-9 years of software industry experience

  • Hands-on experience in web services (REST, SOAP, WSDL etc.)

  • Hands-on experience in utilizing Spring Framework (Core, MVC, Integration and Data)

  • Knowledge of microservices with Docker and containerization

  • Experience with Angular 2 framework

  • Relational databases experience

  • Experience in building scalable and highly available distributed systems

  • Experience evangelizing how technology solves customer problems from a technology and business perspective
