General Electric Propulsion Engineering Electrical Engineer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The Propulsion Electrical Engineer position provides technical direction and assistance within Transportation applications to meet assigned objectives. In this role, you will be responsible for design, testing, application studies, field support, manufacturing support, and innovation on a variety of machine topologies.
A Lead Engineer in Propulsion will be responsible for Motors and/or Alternator electrical design. They will train under experienced engineers on application specifics and use Deep Smart techniques to quickly deliver on priorities. They will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. You will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.
Perform electromagnetic analysis of an electric machine (Induction, Synchronous, and DC)
Perform basic thermal analysis of an electric machine.
Lead the validation of new components and subassemblies, author & release of drawings and specifications
Generate engineering documents (DFMEA, Design Review materials, Purchase Specs, meeting notes, technical visuals and presentations, etc.)
Strong oral and written communication skills, able to work well in teams while demonstrating leadership & accountability
Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers
Document and communicate results of technical data generated consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
Minimum of 3 year of experience in Transportation applications
Working Knowledge of Electric machine design principles and associated engineering performance evaluations; strong desire and motivation to be Expert in Electrical Design/application of Propulsion machines.
Exposure to functional testing of various electric machines.
Familiarity with the materials and manufacturing processes used in Electric Machine Construction
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on electromagnetics or power
Deep experience in Rotating Equipment Design.
Prior work in transportation or power industries.
Exposure to Blower design and Airflow analysis & ventilation of machines.
Working knowledge of Electromagnetic FEA & interpretation of results.
Working knowledge of Thermal Analysis of an electric machine.
