Job Description Summary
GE Aerospace is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of new products to help us invent the future of flight, lift people up, and bring them home safely within our Platform Hardware organization.
In this role, you will be challenged to use your technical skillset, problem-solving abilities, and lean mindset to meet key business objectives for our commercial and military customers across a variety of our product lines.
This opportunity is bonus eligible and will be flexible to either a work location of Grand Rapids, MI or Clearwater, FL. Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
Perform mechanical design, interconnect evaluations, mechanical component selection, and tolerance stack-up analysis activities for avionics products.
Create mechanical models, drawings, and bills of material.
Perform thermal, stress, and vibration analyses and tests to ensure product compliance to environmental and operational requirements, and provide conclusive technical reports.
Perform design and work-product reviews.
Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), maintainability, and testability concepts.
Take part in design architectural trade studies and proposals.
Collaborate with customers to understand their needs.
Provide mentorship to junior engineers.
Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams.
Create design concepts and budget estimates for bid and proposal activities.
Provide timely technical support to the production factory for root cause investigations, and improvement to product and processes/tooling.
Identify and implement creative improvements to department processes and tools.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
Minimum of 10 years' of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
Desired Characteristics:
Attention to detail.
Experience leading mechanical designs and managing work from others (no direct reports).
Experience in packaging design for electronics assemblies.
Working knowledge and application experience in Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
Proficiency in model and drawing creation using Siemens NX.
Experience using Product Lifecycle Management systems (PTC Windchill).
Proficiency in vibration and thermal analysis using FEA tools.
Familiarity with aerospace standards, materials, and processes.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated structured problem solving skills.
