Role Summary:

The EHS Front Line Leader reports hierarchically to the HEU EHS Leader and functionally to the Location Leader.

Essential Responsibilities:

ITO – Inquiry to Offer

  • Participates actively as EHS contributor in the ITO’s that are assigned to her/him by the EHS HEU Leader

  • Works closely with the ITO teams to ensure that all the EHS requirements, either client, GE or regulatory requirements are well integrated in the EHS ITO pack. Prepares the ITO EHS packages and submits it for approval to the ITS EHS Leader

  • Makes a regular follow up of ITO’s in which she/he participated

OTR – Order to Remittance

Project Phase:

  • Is the EHS project referent for her/his Scope and assigned sites (both for Services and projects in Iberica zone) and works closely with the project’s Project Manager/Director to ensure that all EHS requirements are consistently considered before mobilization of site

  • Participates in the project reviews

  • Develops a Project EHS Plan, or reviews/approves a plan developed by others. The Plan shall be Country and Project specific. Moreover, the plan will identify all EHS requirements that need to be implemented to ensure, at a minimum, compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, client requirements and GE programs

  • When required, identifies and trains a site EHS representative who will be staffed in the project site team under authority of site manager for the execution of the project

  • Advises and assists in the investigation of serious accidents and dangerous occurrences. Where required, assists in the reporting of all such cases to regulatory agencies. Identifies EHS training required by people involved in the project execution, and provide assistance in organizing such training. Coordinates with Site Managers and, where appropriate, advises on training to improve the existing knowledge of personnel on Environmental, Health, and Safety matters

  • Site Mobilization

  • Performs audit mobilization check lists (either for projects or services sites)

  • Checks the adequacy of contractors and their validation

  • Check the documentation (internal & external) required by the customers in their different platforms

  • Ensures the specific follow up of the site and the link with the site teams

  • Guide Site teams in the EHS management routine implementation

  • Liaises with customer EHS and Operations staff, to ensure GE meets their EHS expectations for the project, and quickly addresses and responds to any EHS concerns they raise

  • Provides EHS support to the Project Manager, Site Manager, Site EHS Representative, and other project staff as required

  • Manages and mentors the site EHS representatives

  • Ensure all required internal and external EHS reporting is completed on time

Support operational teams and make them leader in EHS be part of the Regional Iberica Team

  • Be the zone EHS expert and provide answers to Bilbao and Lisbon Location Manager

  • Attend Location board meetings

  • Explain the EHS tools / procedures / process and train the board

  • Deploy within the Iberica Region Management the HEU EHS strategy

  • Know/inform/control the regulatory compliance for the region

EHS Management System (ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001)

  • Ensures that GE Hydro Europe EHS procedures are embodied in the management


  • Experienced in similar activity and knowledge of EHS on Sites, and experience in construction management is an assetExperience in transversal projects in multi-cultural environments is an assetEnvironmental analysis / risk assessment / root cause analysis toolsGood knowledge and understanding of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001

  • Good knowledge of EHS regulations applicable within the ZoneAudit skills

  • Fluent in English

  • Native in Spanish and Fluent in Portuguese or native in Portuguese and fluent in Spanish

  • EU Work Permit

Non-national candidates are responsible to know the minimum documentation requirements to be able to be contracted in country: NIE- Social Security Affiliation Number in Spain (NAF) and Bank Account in Spain. They must be in possession of them at the time of start hiring. GE will not sponsor this requirement.

  • University degree (B.Sc.) or equivalent

  • Health & Safety Certification (“Tecnico superior en prevencion de riesgos laborales”)

  • Internationally recognized EHS qualification
