General Electric Senior EHS Technician in Oak Creek, Wisconsin

Job Description Summary

Performs diverse and complex assignments in support of GEHC Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs. Responsibilities include achieving business objectives by leveraging partnership with Purchased Services contractor to drive environmental compliance and maximize return on commodity recycling. Conducting EHS inspections, maintaining EHS recordkeeping systems, conducting or assisting with EHS employee site trainings, participating in other EHS program activities to ensure employee safety and regulatory compliance in the manufacturing environment.

Job Description


  • Utilizing initiative, advance diagnostics, independent judgment, construct and assist in evaluating recycling material

  • Coordinate shipping and shipment verification/validation with downstream recycling partners and ensuring DOT & hazardous waste shipments regulations are met

  • Perform daily recycling audits, manage recycling database

  • Enter, analyze and trend recycling metrics for improvement opportunities

  • Own or actively participate in one or more Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Framework Element and Facilitate site specific training requirements

  • Interface with other departments in the execution of duties to ensure material is properly identified and disposed

  • Provide evaluation, feedback and leadership in the development of safe and compliant recycling processes

  • Drive cross-department process improvements focused on reducing material going to the landfill

  • Provide technical leadership by developing safe and compliant guidance for contractor team

  • Lead EHS projects/activities designed to eliminate hazards and improve overall safety of recycling and plant operations

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree and 5 years technical experience, or a High School Diploma and 7 years’ experience.

  • Ability to draw accurate conclusions from material identification, and assist with corrections to the existing waste stream or process

  • Proficiency to understand and interpret basic written technical information

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with limited direction and information

  • Demonstrated ongoing effort to maintain knowledge of current technology

  • Ability to communicate using English (or local language)

  • Demonstrated technical leadership ability

  • Ability to meet customer site access requirements, including COVID-19 vaccination
