General Electric Technology Manager - Lifing and Durability in Niskayuna, New York

Job Description Summary

The Technology Manager will work collaboratively with the Technology Directors, Program Office leaders (BPMs/Breakout leads), Business and Government technical peers and fellow Technology Managers to foster innovation and ensure research efforts are aligned with organizational priorities in the areas of material mechanics and the development and application of mechanical stress and lifing techniques to mechanical components and systems under high temperatures and high thermo-mechanical loads. Applications include cyclic fatigue of static and rotating parts and durability analysis of hot section parts in gas turbines. The successful candidate will work to define overall strategy and operating rhythms and drive team execution. As the manager of a research team, the successful candidate will provide frequent feedback, guidance and technical/career coaching to team members.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Technology Director, plus leadership at GE business units and GRC, to develop/refine the vision and strategy for the Lifing and Durability Lab. Achieve alignment of that vision and strategy with those of relevant organizations both at GRC and at the GE business units.

  • Recruit top talent, mentor and coach team members; staff interdisciplinary teams by drawing appropriate resources from across GE.

  • Drive technology program execution and technology transition to the business, meeting deliverables, budgets, and schedules, while also contributing technically to projects.

  • Develop networks in the GE businesses, with external commercial customers, and with Academia and External Research Partners.

  • Represent and promote GE’s research in the technical community.

  • Exemplify GE leadership values and make full use of GE initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field.

  • At least seven years of relevant experience in research and development in turbomachinery or related industry sectors.

  • Technical project leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated impact, leadership capability and ability to lead, build and energize cross-functional, global teams in high-impact technology.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand customer needs and industry trends; simplify strategy into specific actions, make decisions, and communicate priorities.

  • Demonstrated abilityto influence at senior levels.

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.

  • Must be 18 years or older.

Desired Characteristics

  • Doctorate in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

  • Industrial experience in the field of turbomachinery for power generation or aerospace propulsion.

  • Familiarity with related fields of turbomachinery such as materials, structures and aerothermal design.

  • Demonstrated track record in the transition of research and development technology into an industrial product environment.

  • U.S. citizenship is preferred due to Federal Contract Provisions.

  • Experience working with and interacting with global teams and cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
