General Electric Technology Manager – Controls & Optimization - Energy Research in Niskayuna, New York

The Controls & Optimization Technology Manager will work collaboratively across GE Vernova Research to foster innovation and advance critically important optimization and control technologies in areas of interest to both our GE Vernova business units as well as Government and strategic partners. The Technology Manager will drive technical and organizational strategy, ensure team execution and operational excellence, and provide guidance and coaching to team members on technical and career direction, all in support of GE Vernova’s mission to be a leader in the Energy Transition.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead a world-class multi-disciplinary team of technologists with a focus on optimization and controls technologies to support the Energy Transition.

  • Responsibilities include driving technical and organizational strategy, ensuring operational excellence (safety & compliance, finance, resource planning) and enabling project execution.

  • Recruit and retain top talent. Provide mentoring, coaching, career growth opportunities and focused operational development (project/program management, Lean principles, etc.) for team members.

  • Work closely with the Technology Director and Mission Leaders, collaboratively across GE Vernova business and technology teams, and with key external partners to develop/refine the vision and strategy for the Controls & Optimization team.

  • Own team technical and operational functions within the discipline as developed in collaboration with the Technology Director and Mission Leaders; this will include all elements of strategy definition, goal setting, recruiting, safety and compliance, finance, resource planning, operating rhythms, and project execution.

  • Enable technology program execution and technology transition meeting deliverables, budgets, and schedules, while also contributing technically to projects.

  • Resource planning for the team to meet both organizational needs and Researcher development goals.

  • Create open environment and cross sharing of technology. Collaborate across disciplines and actively contribute to TM/people leader community at the site.

  • Establish, maintain, and grow strategic relationships with the GE Vernova and external community in areas of need for the organization.

  • Represent and promote GE Vernova’s research in the community.

  • Continuous improvement through standard work, KPIs, and process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of 7 years of experience in controls and optimization

  • Demonstrated ability to actively recruit top talent with diverse backgrounds

  • Demonstrated impact, technical project leadership capability and ability to lead, build and energize cross-functional teams in high-impact technology

  • Demonstrated ability to influence at senior levels

  • Proven track record of promoting safety practices

  • Proven ability to continuously improve the culture of the organization
