General Electric Sustainable Fuels Analyst in Niskayuna, New York

Job Description Summary

In this role, you will lead the technoeconomic analysis of global sustainable fuels – with a focus on the aviation and power generation sectors.

The analyst will be responsible for researching, identifying trends, and analyzing emerging sustainable fuel technologies that can strategically position GE’s product strategy and technology roadmap.

Job Description

The analyst will analyze the linkages between sustainable fuel markets, as well as the certification of low carbon oil and gas commodities.

The analyst is part of a team of technologists and analysts tasked with exploring industry transformations and other potential disruptions ultimately to help position innovation and find competitive advantages.

The analyst is uniquely positioned to collaborate with various groups within GE including the Aviation, Renewables, and Gas Power Businesses, Technical experts within GE Research and market and economic leaders across the company. The analyst reports to the Manager of Products Science Ecosystems.


  • Build understanding of different sustainable fuel pathways; including the necessary supply chain, required market mechanisms, efficiency and cost walks, and ultimately CO2 intensity

  • Create and define models of sustainable fuel value chain, i.e. production, transportation, storage and usage, and model their impact across various industrial sectors.

  • Maintain a fundamental understanding and ongoing updating of supply-demand and price forecasts for sustainable fuel markers.

  • Work closely with the leader of Energy Transformation Technology Leader team to track and understand the dynamics around global demand for carbon mitigation – mandatory and voluntary – around the world – including the Boeing commitment to fly 100% biofuel by 2030.

  • Regularly updating of estimates of sustainable fuel costs for different technology projects and types

  • Deliver succinct and high-quality written content that communicates the expertise

  • Create charts, graphs and other visually valuable content that illustrates technoeconomic trends

  • Work with product development teams to create new offerings and enhance existing products

  • Educate key internal stakeholders on sustainable fuel technoeconomics, methodology, and value proposition

  • Engage with business leaders via calls, meetings, conferences, and events, communicating methodology and value propositions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, chemistry, engineering, or a similar discipline with 6+ years of relevant industry or research experience. --OR-- An advanced degree in in economics, chemistry, engineering, or a similar discipline with 3+ years of relevant industry or research experience.

  • Knowledge of mathematical, statistical and modelling concepts and research methods, including: learning curves and regressions.

  • Technical abilities around organizing and analyzing data. Strong Microsoft Suite skills are required with an emphasis on Excel and basic understanding of Python.

  • Industry experience conducting research or market analysis in the energy transitions sector. Demonstrated experience with more technical and scientific writing.

  • Knowledge of energy commodity markets, strong research and analytical skills, and an innovative approach to solving complex problems.

  • Flexible work location with the ability to travel to Niskayuna, NY as needed.
