General Electric Senior Scientist - Operations Research in Niskayuna, New York
As a Senior Scientist - Operations Research, you will develop simulation tools for business/physical systems and co-optimize them to achieve Key Process Indicators.You will develop system solutions vision, working directly with GE’s businesses stakeholders, and to lead teams through the execution of such vision to turn it into commercial products. You will work independently and in a team to develop systems technology solutions for multiple GE product applications.
Responsibilities will include working closely with business stakeholders to create and manage projects that provide direct business impact. Partner with business leaders to align strategic projects with business objectives. Create technology roadmaps and initiate, manage, and strengthen partnership internally and externally.
In this role you will:
Develop advanced quantitative simulation and hybrid models of complex physical-business systems, calculating the key performance metrics [throughput, inventory, operating expense, fulfillment, risk & return]
Develop new scientific principals in integrated discrete-event and agent-based simulations that call other decision support or sub-system models such as optimizers, engineering design tools, reasoners, handling time constants from sub-second to lifecycle
Code ancillary support (Java, C++, Python, R) for the integration of simulations/analytics into middleware, data bases and decision systems
Proven record of establishing, leading and executing technical vision from concept to commercial product
Ability to influence, lead, and guide teams who are do not report directly into you through project execution, helping them prioritize hypotheses and understand approaches to test them.
Ability to influence senior leader and help them prioritizes effectively to select solutions that are feasible and efficient for creating business value/maximizing gain.
Take a strategic role in identifying and closing of organization technology skill gaps
Clearly and professionally communicate progress and results of your research with the team, business leaders, customers and technology providers
Collaborate with world-class talent in many disciplines, each touched by the need of enabling GE products and services to unlock new customer value
Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Management Science, Operations Research, Computer Science or closely related field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in developing industrial systems simulation and/or optimization algorithms.
Demonstrated development skills and documentation capability in Java, C++, Python, etc
Proven record of developing discrete-event and/or agent-based simulations using AnyLogic, ProModel, Arena, Repast or any other simulation languages
Demonstrated systems thinking and applied decision support for operations optimization
Demonstrated hands-on analytical software development skills for conceiving solutions and implementing algorithms for decision support system(s)
Demonstrated capability to configure analytical workflows that orchestrate data and analytical modules such as simulation and optimization applications
Proven record of capabilities in identifying technical opportunities and successfully converting them to projects and products
Demonstrated Project management skills
Willingness to travel at a minimum of 2 weeks per year.
