Job Description
As an Aerodynamics and Aero-acoustics Lead Engineer, you will be focused on developing technologies to improve aerodynamic and aeromechanic performance for various GE products. You will perform research and technology development for the next generation of aircraft engine, gas turbine, and wind turbine products and services.
You will work in a team carrying out research and development of next generation aerodynamics, for turbomachinery and non-tradition turbomachinery products. Specifically, you will develop aerodynamic technology and noise reduction concepts specific to aircraft engines, gas turbines, and wind turbines.
In this role you will:
You will independently execute tasks using your technical skills for projects in the field of turbomachinery aerodynamics and aeromechanics
Work as part of a team executing on multi-generation technology programs to enable future design advancements.
Participate in high fidelity computational analyses. You will use both proprietary and commercial CFD and computational aero-acoustic solvers.
Participate in validation & verification efforts to advance computational methodologies and/or to demonstrate new technologies. Interface with experimentalists to ensure high quality data acquisition.
Develop ideas and concepts to improve compressor and turbine performance and operability of turbomachinery components.
Collaborate with the GE Aviation and GE Power engineering community to communicate and validate state-of-the-art aerodynamic prediction methodologies and analysis systems
Required Qualifications
Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines with 6+ years experience OR Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines with at least 10+ years of relevant experience.
Experience and knowledge of fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, compressor and/or turbine design
Experience in meshing & using engineering simulation/analysis tools (such as CFX or Fluent) to model turbomachinery flows.
Ability to investigate, model and provide critical insight into complex physical flow phenomena.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
Good communication skills and ability to interface with senior leaders and customers with clarity and confidence
Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
Must be 18 years or older

Desired Characteristics
At least 5+ years of industrial or research experience in turbomachinery aerodynamics and/or wind turbine aerodynamics
Demonstrated proficiency in meshing & using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), hi-fidelity LES based approach and high performance computing.
Passion for science and technology and clear evidence of innovation and creativity
Strong interpersonal skills.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
