Job Description Summary

As a Research Scientist, you will focus on the Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis of wide ranges of materials. You will be working in collaboration with a diverse team of engineers and scientists at GE Vernova Research to develop composition/structure/property understanding of advanced materials. In addition, you will have an opportunity to develop novel characterization methods in support of materials research.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Work closely with Engineers and Scientists to plan and execute characterization for a variety of projects include metals, structural materials, superalloys, intermetallics, high entropy alloys, ceramics, and thermal barrier coatings.
Working Interact and collaborate with materials scientists and materials development teams across GE Vernova.
Maintain and operate characterization equipment necessary to complete the tasks.
Analyze data and provide report to the team using appropriate tools.
Maintain accurate records of the work performed and other records required by the projects.
Share project progress through presentations and written reports.
Present technical work both internally and externally.
Foster a multidisciplinary and inclusive team environment.
Perform all work in accordance with EHS guidelines.
Required Qualifications
PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline, or Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in TEM characterization
Ability to perform a wide range of sample preparation methods for TEM analysis such as FIB for site specific extraction, electropolishing, ion milling and microtomy.
TEM and FIB technique
Demonstrated ability in advanced characterization, such as hands-on experience of TEM for structure visualization (bright field, dark field, high angle annular dark field), phase chemistry analysis (STEM-EDS, EELS Spectroscopy, Energy Filtered Imaging), phase crystallography (Electron diffraction for phase ID and defect analysis), and HRTEM (direct imaging of atomic lattice structure, atomic scale resolution)
Strong interpersonal, leadership and written and verbal communication skills in a diverse, global team environment
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage sample queue, and perform multiple, concurrent tasks
Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team advising the team on best TEM approaches to achieve desired results and presenting the findings to aid in establishing structure/processing/property relationships.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products like Excel and Powerpoint.

Desired Characteristics
Experience in metallurgy within an industrial research setting.
Experience operating TEM instruments such as Titan Themis.
Experience in other material characterization techniques such as SEM, EDS and XRD.
Experience with image analysis and post-processing of data.
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $150,000 USD annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location.
