General Electric Research Engineer - Mechatronics in Niskayuna, New York
As a Mechatronics Research Engineer, you will work with the engineering team whose responsibilities include the design and analysis of machine dynamics, machine integration and controls, testing and debugging machine prototypes.
Essential responsibilities include the design, analysis of machine dynamics, machine controls and the integration of machine components into electro-mechanical system prototype. Responsibilities also include advanced design and development of mechanical systems such as medical devices, robotic & articulated systems, rotating machinery and process control devices.

engineer, you will:
Be a team member of mechanical, electrical, thermal and aero engineers,at GE Global Research, GE business units, as well as other multidisciplinaryteams in the conceptual design and automation of robotics and mechatronics
Be responsible for performing advanced design and development ofmechanical systems such as medical devices, robotic & articulated systems,rotating machinery and process control devices. Applications include medicalequipment, additive machine automation, power generation and distributionmachinery, inspection and repair delivery devices and rotating machines
Work closely with biologists, chemists and electrical and mechanicalengineers both at GE Global Research and the GE business units in thedevelopment of concepts for mechanical systems and machines
Work closely with the design and development of prototype hardware andsoftware to validate mechanical systems and devices
Communicate with cross-functional teams at GE Global Research and the GEbusiness units to transition prototype hardware and software to product teams
Ensure the development of critical technologies to enable highperformance machinery working with internal and business engineering teams aswell as outside vendors and research institutes
Guide the procurement, build up and testing of prototype machinery fromthe concept phase through the validation testing phase for the evaluation ofmechanical, thermal and electrical performance
Serve as a technical expert with ability to respond to short term technicalissues
Build customer relationships and regularly communicate with the customeron project status
Perform all work in accordance with EHS guidelines
PhD or MS with at least 3 years in MechanicalEngineering, Aerospace Engineering or Applied Mechanics with mechatronics,robotics and/or machine design and control experience
Working knowledge of analytical and experimentalmethods for development of dynamical systems, process systems, devices,rotating machinery and/or robotics
Experience with procurement, buildup and testingof prototype hardware, instrumentation and software
Experience with hands-on application of designprinciples to develop and test advanced prototypes in the areas of dynamic andmechatronic systems such as robotic devices, automation systems or rotatingmachinery
Solid foundation in design, dynamic analysis, andcontrol of mechanical, mechatronic and/or rotating systems.
Knowledge of electromechanical, hydraulic andother drives and actuators
Experience in conceiving, developing and carryingout experiments in component hardware and transferring component level testsinto full scale hardware solutions
Experience in analysis and design of machinecomponents; motion and process control hardware, software and firmware design.
Interpersonal, leadership and communication skillsin a global team environment
High efficiency in using 3D solid modelingsoftware (i.e. Unigraphics, Solidworks, ProE)
High efficiency in ANSYS, Labview and Matlab
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Execution mindset and sense of urgency
