General Electric Research Engineer – Material & Process Modeling in Niskayuna, New York
Job Description Summary
As a Research Engineer – Material & Process Modeling, you will be directly responsible for the development of multiphysics models of new structural and functional materials for applications including power generation and aircraft propulsion. In this role, you will implement the latest computational tools to understand material processes and behavior, and will support key material development programs across GE.
Conduct research in an interdisciplinary team involving the design and optimization of new materials and processes.
Leverage your expertise in multiphysics modeling to support the development of new material systems.
Work across organizations, including interfacing with GE businesses, government agencies and universities, to define project objectives and technical approach, and meet project deliverables.
Communicate progress internally and externally through oral presentations, internal reports, and as appropriate through external communications including conference presentations and publications, to engineering and leadership teams at GE Research and GE businesses, government agencies and professional societies.
Foster an inclusive multidisciplinary team environment.
Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or closely related discipline or MS degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or closely related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
Demonstrated experience with commercial multiphysics and materials modeling tools (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS, FLUENT, ABAQUS)
Strong understanding of transport phenomena, reaction kinetics, and thermo-mechanical behavior for structural and functional materials.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and in large multidisciplinary teams.
Self-motivated to perform research in white space, isolating and structuring unmet or unarticulated needs to realize truly innovative opportunities.

Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

Publication and innovation record, as evidenced by peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, technical books, or issued patents.
Experience with process and materials modeling with emphasis on mass and energy transport.
Experience with designing laboratory experiments to calibrate and validate models.
Knowledge of statistical analysis, data analytics, and/or machine learning methods.
