General Electric Lead Engineer – Biomedical Engineering, Wearable Sensor Systems in Niskayuna, New York

Job Description Summary

This position will require you to innovate independently and with a team to solve challenging problems in wearable sensor systems for physiological monitoring. The research and development work will include a variety of physiological and environmental sensing applications across a range of clinical and industrial applications.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Lead Engineer, you will:

  • Actively engage in the research and development of novel wearable sensing systems for physiological and environmental parameters.

  • Develop low power, flexible, wireless-enabled systems leveraging knowledge of human physiology.

  • Develop prototypes including circuit design, circuit board layout, and embedded firmware.

  • Validate performance of developed solutions through analysis, simulation, test, and measurement.

  • Clearly and professionally communicate progress and results of your research with the team, business leaders, customers and technology providers.

  • Work closely with business stakeholders and project team members to meet project deliverables.

  • Create intellectual property by generating invention disclosures and filing patents.

  • Maintain external visibility through conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal publications.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience, or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to originate and follow through on ideas.

  • Demonstrated design and development experience with wearable physiological sensing including signal acquisition, signal processing, and algorithm development.

  • Proficiency with sensor hardware development including analog front end circuitry, embedded microcontroller programming, low power wireless communication, and circuit board layout.

  • Proficiency developing and analyzing signal processing and physiological algorithms using Matlab, Python, etc. and implementation of real-time algorithms on micro controllers using C, etc.

  • Proficiency with test and measurement laboratory equipment and methods to validate electronic subsystem performance including statistical analysis of performance results.

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Desired Characteristics

  • A record of research and development, and experience with wearable medical devices proven by peer-reviewed conference proceedings, and journal publications.

  • Experience with Institutional Review Board procedures related to human subject testing.

  • Experience with chemical or gas sensing technology development.

  • Experience with FPGA-based system design, HDL coding, and verification

  • Experience with medical device and radio regulations (FDA, FCC) related to wearable systems

  • High levels of curiosity, independence, and creativity.

  • Experience writing proposals in response to government solicitations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, team oriented with “can - do” mindset.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
