General Electric Entry Level Facilities Electrical Engineer in Niskayuna, New York

Job Description Summary

The Facilities Electrical Engineer will focus on multiple projects in support of the electrical design and operational needs of the Research Center. This includes: ensuring safety and efficiency of operations across the organization, managing complex issues within functional areas of expertise, and involvement in long term planning.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Serve as an Electrical Engineer working for the Facilities organization

  • Design industrial type electrical systems– including load calculations, arc flash analysis, grounding, protection, and coordination

  • Develop technical drawings and specifications for construction

  • Maintain / Update plant electrical single line diagrams

  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and equipment

  • Provide direction to Electricians, Mechanics, Technicians, and other staff disciplines to support projects and maintenance efforts

  • Perform field work to validate electrical panels, breakers, tool points of connection and update databases and record drawings with as-built conditions

  • Participate in specifying on-site facility electrical requirements

  • Provide input to new Process Equipment Purchase Specifications to ensure adequacy

  • Recommend facility equipment reliability improvements by doing analysis of equipment trends, historical, and field data

  • Ability to handle multiple diverse activities simultaneously

  • Ability to communicate effectively and contribute to team projects

  • AutoCAD proficient

  • Role Summary/Purpose: The Facilities Electrical Engineer will support the site operations of GE Research. Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college

  • Must be 18 years or older

Desired Characteristics

  • Working knowledge of NFPA, OSHA and New York State Building Code

  • 5 years of experience in Facility Engineering

  • Fire Alarm and Toxic Gas Monitoring System experience

  • Easy Power proficiency

  • 115kV, 34.5kV and 4.16kV experience

  • PLC and VFD experience

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Strong project and team leadership

  • Experience directing a represented workforce
