General Electric Controls & Optimization Engineer in Niskayuna, New York

Role Summary:

Come join GE’s Global Research team and apply your skills to create world-class systems solutions. As a Controls & Optimization Engineer, you will help develop, design, evaluate, and deliver advanced controls and optimization solutions.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Controls & Optimization Engineer will help create technological differentiation for leading products such as Additive manufacturing machines that are revolutionizing manufacturing, industrial Blockchain applications that enable secure transactions, cyber-physical cyber-security systems that protect the world’s critical infrastructure, and more.

Specifically, the Controls & Optimization Engineer will support the development, design, evaluation, and delivery of systems technology solutions including modeling, controls, optimization, estimation, cyber-security, and detection to develop technology differentiation.

Responsibilities include working independently and with project teams to meet deliverables. For design and evaluation, employee will use real and/or simulated data and perform tests in simulation and/or hardware-in-the loop environments, document results, provide feedback for improvements and help with development of tools and processes to drive improvements.

As a Controls & Optimization Engineer you will:

  • Work independently and with project teams to meet deliverables in a fast paced and agile development environment

  • Program in MATLAB/Simulink, C++, Python, or equivalent

  • Participate in continuous improvements to the development process to aid productivity and to increase quality

  • Document technology and results through technical reports and publications

  • Stay current with advances in system development technologies to seek out new approaches for development

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of 3 years of experience. Internships will be considered as experience.

  • Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship.

  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

  • Must be 18 years or older.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics from an accredited college or university, or equivalent degree

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership and customers with confidence and clarity

  • Expertise in MATLAB/Simulink and Python or C/C++ Expertise in numerical algorithm implementation and evaluation

  • Experience implementing prototype control system or optimization solutions and completing robustness and performance evaluations

  • Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles

  • Knowledge of Agile software development practices

  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams

  • Experience with embedded SW development and RTOS (Real-Time Linux, VxWorks, QNX)

  • Knowledge of industrial controls systems
