Job Description Summary

As an Analytics Engineer Co-op you will be part of the Data & Analytics Engineering team within GE Renewable Energy’s Digital Services business. Using your knowledge of data tools and techniques you will create analytics that monitor industrial scale machines that impact our modern lives. You will assist in developing diagnostic and prognostic algorithms to detect anomalous behavior and prevent failure on machines that power our world.

Roles and Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Share in our mission to unleash limitless clean energy to all corners of our world

  • Build lasting solutions that will monitor and surface critical performance metrics for Renewable Energy assets

  • Wrangle large datasets from Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) type machines e.g. Wind Turbines, Solar Arrays, Hydro Plants

  • Employ statistical and anomaly detection methods to optimize the performance and reliability of industrial machines

  • Partner with data scientists, data engineers, reliability engineers, field engineers to design, build, test and deploy data driven solutions to detect (diagnostic) or prevent (prognostic) machine failures

  • Use Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methods to diagnose and troubleshoot system failures

  • Work with highly motivated individuals like yourself to solve complex and interesting data problems that are impactful to our customers and GE Renewable Energy

Required Characteristics

  • Pursuing degree in science, economics, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or similar quantitative field of study

  • Experience with Python data science toolsets including Pandas, Matplotlib, Jupyter Notebook, SciPy etc.

  • Ability to use SQL (or SQL like languages) to wrestle data away from and negotiate inputs to any database

  • Familiar with file format and storage technologies such as Parquet, JSON, CSV, S3, Azure Blobstore, HDFS etc.

  • Possess a curiosity to explore how to use data, cutting edge technology and data science techniques to continually add value for GE Renewable Energy and our customers

  • Welcome the challenge of wrangling new and interesting datasets from disparate sources (IIOT machines, ERP Systems, application APIs etc.) to deliver insights

  • Experience with software development techniques, tools and processes like source control (Git), Functional or Object Oriented Programing, Test Driven Development, Agile Analytics Development, Functional Decomposition of systems, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CICD)

  • Familiar with cloud provider tools for data science (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)

  • Ability to consume and create Web APIs (e.g. ReST, gRPC) for building data models or making them available for others to use

  • Clear communicator who can explain complex concepts in simple and concise terms

  • Value collaboration within and across teams
