General Electric Lead Additive Design Engineer in New Orleans, Louisiana

Job Description Summary

The Lead Additive Designer operates as a design team member providing definition of responsible module deliverables that meet customer, partner and program needs. In this role you will work with engineering, supply chain and other business functional teams to deliver Renewable component additive enabled designs. The Lead Additive Designer will also support design and CAD work related to equipment development and factory layout/simulation studies. This individual will work closely with the process, design, and equipment teams on site to drive robust design-for-manufacturing and support the swift resolution of challenges highlighted during prototype builds.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work with Engineering teams to identify components that are good candidates for additive manufacturing

  • Work with component design engineers to define product CTQs

  • Create design concepts with innovative design features for robustness/repeatability using additive techniques

  • Invent new component design for Additive based manufacturing

  • Create detailed designs (3D model / 2D drawing), coordinate with manufacturing team and communicate design CTQ’s to the Additive organization

  • Support the design and development of composite, additive, and advanced manufacturing equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited university or college and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of mechanical components and systems (OR an Associates Degree in MET, Engineering Graphics, Drafting Technology with college level mathematics and minimum of 10 years of design drafting experience)

  • Expert knowledge of computer aided design (CAD), preferably in Siemens NX

  • Expert understanding of computer aided manufacturing (CAM) and manufacturing processes

  • Expert understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as it relates to individual parts and overall assemblies (ANSI Y14.5)

  • Effective problem identification and solution skills

  • Additive design or manufacturing experience
