Job Description Summary

Application Engineer will manage the technical communication, preparation of the technical offers for supply electrical propulsion solutions including ice-class pods propulsion systems for Marine program and other Power Conversion projects with Russian and Global customers as a part of sales and pre-sales activities. Also, support technical discussion during the execution of the existing contracts within the Marine program when applicable.

About GE Power Conversion – Marine program

Rosneft Oil Company (Rosneft) and General Electric (GE) launched a joint venture in 2015 to develop and build an ice-class electric pod in Russia, LLC Application Engineering and Training Center “Sapphire” (Sapphire). In addition to engineering the pod, GE and Rosneft invested in a factory at the Zvezda shipyard in Russia’s Far East. GE brings expertise from across its businesses to the project—from the development of each component to the manufacturing itself. Sapphire draws on proven GE technology to create a highly competitive, localized opportunity for its own business—and for the entire Russian marine industry. Sapphire will develop new products to serve this growing industry and identify opportunities to extend the technology to other applications, such as passenger vessels.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provides technical expertise and develops technical solutions as part of the pre-ITO (requisition) process while interfacing with the commercial team. Possesses a deep understanding of relevant markets and customer economic value that aid winning bid strategies. To include 'ITO': Technical analysis of client need: definition and optimization of the products; scope (description); schedule; industrial scheme; cost, considering contract and internal policies and procedures. Calculation of system and equipment performance and efficiency. Documentation of technical specifications & costing elements for further contract execution phases.

  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.

  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

  • A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills

  • Serve as the GE representative and focal point for the customer regarding the technical aspects of GE proposal.

  • Work closely with GE region teams (including OTR team) to support technical discussions and issues on the projects under execution.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University with a technical degree (electrical machines or similar)

  • Minimum 5 year experience as Application Engineer.

  • Minimum 5 experience in either field engineering, commercial, engineering, sourcing, repair, power plant operation and maintenance or other adjacent role with Power or Power Conversion portfolio

  • Fluency in Russian & English

Eligibility Requirements:

  • GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in Russia for this opening.

  • Ability and willingness to travel (20%)

  • Understanding of GE financial processes, revenue recognition, costs, margin, and quarterly forecasting

  • Understanding of project scheduling; ability to manage critical path activities to meet outage date

  • Extended scope experience involving electrical propulsion systems including converters, generators, switchboards, transformers, auxiliary systems and/or power generation equipment

  • Direct customer facing experience
