General Electric Senior Legal Counsel in Minato, Japan

Job Description Summary

Provide strategic legal advice to GEHC Japan as Senior Legal Counsel. The role is expected to drive towards business growth and more integrated and efficient processes; work as a strategic business partner and solution provider, ensure compliance and industry regulatory affairs are managed appropriately in collaboration of compliance team members; and play an active role across the Legal and Compliance function in GEHC Japan.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Being an active business partner to GEHC Japan, continually working to identify strategic opportunities to increase growth/reduce costs in a highly regulated environment

  2. Drive projects, transactions, new scheme feasibility study to move forward, with flexibility and solution provider mindset

  3. Conclude sales, services, distribution, research and other agreements and provide advice on legal consultation

  4. Proactively assist to develop the GEHC Japan legal and compliance team including providing supervisions to paralegals and other team members

  5. Support compliance investigations and compliance projects as appropriate

  6. The role is to be based in Tokyo, and reports to Japan General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Attorney qualification in Japan (bengoshi)

  2. Attorney qualification in other countries (U.S., U.K, etc.) is a plus

  3. At least over 7 years of business law experience at a large international law firm and/or a multinational corporation’s legal department, including drafting, negotiating and closing complex business transactions in a regulated environment

  4. Expertise in antitrust law, labor law and litigation are a plus

  5. Digital and IT related knowledge is preferable

  6. Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving complex legal issues quickly and effectively

  7. Demonstrated experience prioritizing conflicting demands from multiple business clients in an extremely fast-paced environment

  8. Strategic thinking, strong business acumen and lean approach

  9. Ability to effectively communicate in both English and Japanese

Desired Characteristics

  1. Strong interpersonal, communication and strategic skills

  2. Experience of the Healthcare industry and previous exposure to medical industry regulations is preferable

  3. Demonstrated experience providing legal advice in a highly regulated industry that drives business outcomes

  4. Team player, think in other people’s shoe, flexibility, solution provider
