The Electrical Engineer supports the design, implementation and commissioning of balance of plant systems and all secondary/auxiliary systems of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) and HVAC (High Voltage Alternative Current) electrical substation projects. He has depth knowledge of reviewing and validating of control & protection documents: general arrangements (equipment), schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, related drawings documentation and other outputs. He is knowledgeable in electrical protection systems, Balance of plant (LVAC, DC and UPS distribution systems), safety Interlocking systems, system components, SCADA ,engineering requirements and standards. He is familiar with quality assurance, business processes and applications. Possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills. Fluent in Japanese and English. Experience of Solar PV systems would be beneficial.
. The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated and dynamic team of engineers working on the development of control system for VSC HVDC links. This role will be located in Japan and will act as an interface to the customer, suppliers and consortium partners.
Drive the Ukujima LV engineering integration by interfacing with the customer and consortium partners regarding:
Understand control system requirements for the control system architecture, development and verification teams to work from those system requirements.
Manage technical queries from clients in relation with LV and control teams in Europe.
Effectively control and report on progress of reviews with customer.
Report identified variations in the Contract Scope of Work to the Design Manager / Project Manager.
Identify all discrepancies with relevant standards and customer requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant National / International Standards and legislation, and contract specification.
Highlight any identified design issue to the Design Manager / Project Engineer.
Attend and contribute to design review meetings ensuring that appropriate items are actioned in a timely manner.
In conjunction with other GE companies and partners, prepare Installation and commissioning packages, in a timely manner as dictated by Project Programs.
Receive “as installed” site documents and liaise with other partners, subcontractors and suppliers, to ensure accurate final records are prepared and submitted to client in line with the requirements of the contract specification and planning.
Present by himself LV documentation to the customer or attend the document presentation meetings to the customer.
Play a key role in customer relationship in Japan, and interface with HQ software and control teams in Europe.
Understand the key milestones in a project plan, their financial impact and ensuring the technical risks are understood and mitigated in accordance with the plan.
Support a standard product methodology mindset, seek opportunities to re-use solutions, improve quality and reliability whilst reducing the delivery timeline and associated costs.
Assist the Supplier interface Engineer for any technical contact with the local suppliers/manufacturers.
Qualifications / Essential Requirements
Engineering degree or equivalent including power systems and electrical subjects or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in HVDC or HVAC business
Strong sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage technical risks
Strong written and verbal communication skills, experienced in creating and presenting technical reports and responding to clients’ technical questions
Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements, lead technical discussions with customers and develop client relationships
Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and requirements management
Understanding of functional characteristics of power systems and interactions between AC and HVDC systems
Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality and engineering integrity of the solution
Must be flexible with working hours and willing to travel in order to support projects globally
Fluency in written and spoken Japanese and English.
Studies in Electrical engineering
Ability to define requirements and ensure they adhere to best practice
Knowledge of Japanese grid code
