General Electric Lead Customer Application Engineer in Markham, Ontario

This position will be responsible for designing, programming, testing and commissioning protection and control related applications for both electric utilities and industrial markets

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Key technical person on project implementation for complex projects

  • Design protection and control schemes to fulfill user specifications and requirements

  • Fabricate relay setting files to include programming of Protection and Control Elements, Control Logic and Communications settings

  • Perform engineering studies and analyses such as short circuit studies, protective device coordination and load flow etc.

  • Assist software tool development to automate the engineering process internally and externally with key utility partners

  • Acts as technical leader for the assigned projects, a project manager partner

  • Is a direct customer contact on technical issues, clarifies and seeks customer approval on project technical deliverable

  • Analysis of the customer’s needs starting from tender, identification of the appropriate solution according to customer's functional specifications and participate in technical definition of the delivery

  • Conducts Factory Acceptance Tests as Technical Leader

  • Travel to customer locations and conducts Site Acceptance Tests as Technical Leader

  • Abide by all GE Corporate and local policies and procedures including but not limited to Integrity, Diversity, Proprietary Information, Conflict of Interest, QMS and EHS

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S or higher degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering specialized in power system.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in design, study, and analysis of power system protection and control

  • Knowledge of power system steady and transient analysis, fault study and protection theory. Familiar with symmetrical components.

  • Working experience with study software and power system tools such as Mathcad, MATLAB, ASPEN, CAPE or ETAP

  • Working knowledge on substation communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP, Modbus

  • Knowledge or field experience with system commissioning and testing.

  • Ethical and professional business manner in interaction with team members and customers.

  • Strong communication skills including technical writing, MS Word and Excel

  • The ability to work independently within a dynamic work environment is essential

  • P.E registration or be eligible for registration
