Job Description Summary
The Sr Staff Software Engineer demonstrates leadership and program/technical accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives related to the engine control system and software. In this role, you will identify/integrate/develop existing and new processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy as a Control Systems design, integration, and verification engineer for the T901 engine program.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and test requirements and software that provide real time control of aircraft engine control system components, including fuel controllers, actuators, motors, alternators, valves, fans, and other devices
Implement embedded engine software compliant with software plans and industry standards such as DO-178C
Support cross-functional program priorities such as: coordinating and supporting engine tests and deliveries; control system integration and cross-discipline control system issue resolution; customer (airframe) system integration lab setup and support; aircraft integration support
Organize, coordinate, support, and operate control system test rigs and facilities, including but not limited to
Lead and drive cross-disciple control system issue investigations and resolutions, coordinating between hardware component owners, software designers, dynamic system analyses, and supplier/contractor support
Prepare program deliverables and present periodically to customers, including airframe OEMs and government agencies
Execute with limited guidance the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements
Recommend approach to meet the technical and program requirements
Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules, and contract commitments
Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems
Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams; mentor others
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments
Lead or participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and/or tasks
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Q ualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited college or university
A minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering position
E ligibility Requirements:
- This role is restricted to US Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
Desired Characteristics:
8 years of experience in an engineering position, including experience in a practical hands-on test/integration setting
Familiarity using the following tools: DOORs, SCADE, RTC, SIMICS, and desktop simulation using NPSS
Familiarity with military software qualification (MIL-HDBK 516C) or with DO-178C and commercial aviation software certification
Knowledge of aircraft engine EHMS characteristics and design
Knowledge of aircraft controls and digital electronic control systems
Experience with requirements documentation and analysis
Complex component, module, or systems level analysis and/or hardware expertise and ownership, especially in a practical hands-on test setting
Demonstrated ability to document, plan and manage programs
Experience leading cross-functional teams in coordination / collaboration
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to guide / mentor and influence others
Demonstrated leadership in advancing the state of the art in a technical specialty
