As Consulting Engineer, Aeroelasticity, you become part of our Chief Engineering Office having the design practice ownership for Aeroelasticity. This function reports to the Senior Director of Advanced Technology Systems and Chief Engineering within the LM Engineering & Technology department. As a technical authority you play a critical role as a “gate keeper” in design reviews, consulting to our aeroelastic engineering function on resolution of complex aeroelastic problems, coach and approve on root cause analyses and implementing lessons learned in our design practices. You will be expected to be hands-on and participate actively in for example developing new tools and procedures, field tests, where your key expert background can move things forward and sharpen your skills continuously.
Furthermore, your responsibilities encompass shaping the future of aeroelastic methods to ensure LM remains a technology leader in blade aeroelasticity serving our customers needs for high performing and reliable blades. Together with the rest of the Chief Engineering office staff you evaluate cross-disciplinary technical trade-offs to deliver optimized blades for the customer. You mentor and guide our most talented engineers within aeroelasticity to highest possible technical levels within our Technical Career Path.
No direct reports and thus no people leadership.
Understanding (LM) aero-elastic design of rotor blades, the stability and load modes, and methods to test these on blade level as well on turbine.
Key expert on blade aero-elastic design methods and standards
Own and develop our Design Practice for aero-elastic design.
Own and participate in development of international standards on blade aero-elastic design standards
Define LM internal requirements for aero-elastic design to achieve required validation of design reliability.
Develop LM internal design validation methods.
Work with Certification dept to ensure compliance to standards.
Review and approve blade aero-elastic design reviews.
Develop LM aero-elastic design strategy on long term for wind turbine rotor blades
Challenge LM Front End Engineering department on methods and performance
Support New Product Introduction in design validation
Responsible for cross-disciplinary alignment and communication between the aero-elastic domain area and other related domain areas.
Facilitate and communicate basis for technical decisions related to aero-elastic design.
Participate in and approve RCAs and preventive actions as part of quality issues.
Engages in coaching; mentoring and guiding junior employees
Engineering degree (Master of Science in mechanical engineering or physics)
Strong communication skills – including strategic negotiation & ability to network with all potential stakeholders
20+ years of experience in the wind industry or related industry.
Recognized expert in rotor blade aero-elasticity and controls of turbines.
Experience in Certification and Standardization of wind turbines.
Knowledge about design with composite materials
Analytical skills – experience with structural evaluation using FEA methods.
Taking initiatives and defining own tasks based on business needs
Decision making capability
Lean problem-solving mindset and experience.
Capable of representing LM technically and be respected, influence and negotiate technical positions in international organizations and working groups.
Be able to stand in front of LM Management Team and turn complex issues into business context.
