General Electric Design Engineer in Lufkin, Texas

Role Summary:

This role will directly report to the Oil & Gas Rod Lift Systems Engineering Manager. This role supports the Lufkin pumping units segment of GE Oil & Gas. He/she will develop and analyze engineering designs, specifications, technical data, and drawings using sound engineering principles. He/she will be responsible for determining design factors such as size, shape and arrangement of parts, design life, and safety margins.

Essential Responsibilities:

Focus on cost-effective and reliable designs will play an important role in the work scope. In this role, the Product Engineer will interface regularly with the Project Engineer, adjacent functions to synergize total business efforts, and with Engineering and Product Line management to assure milestones are achieved.

In the role of Design Engineer, you will:

  • Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related industry specifications

  • Independently perform most design evaluation assignments

  • Review and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.

  • Support product qualification activities.

  • Be responsible for the technical development of part of a job (requisition) or part of a new project (NPI)

  • Generate appropriate documentation related to design practices (layouts, specifications, design analysis and calculations, stack-ups, design conformity, and BoMs)

  • Interface with PE or Program Manager, DE, Testing, Sourcing, Quality, Manufacturing, and interface with suppliers

  • Coordinate and control the activities performed by external resources related to the assigned job

  • Ensure expected results in term of quality, reliability, execution time, and cost (within control)

  • Use design tools (like parametric modeling software (Creo), Excel, Mathcad and in-house design calculations) Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Design Engineering Desired Characteristics:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in casting design and casting processes

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in heavy weldment design and fabrication processes

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in machined component design and machine processes

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in gear reducer and rotating element design and processing

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Finite element analysis training and software use (Ansys preferred)

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the use of Creo (or other 3D modeling software)

  • Minimum 1 years of experience in PLM systems Windchill preferred

  • Ability to understand and implement design lay-outs for overall assemblies and applying drawing standards

  • Ability to work in teams and achieve targets

  • Strong detail focus

  • Ability to work in a global environment

  • Six Sigma training
