Job Description Summary

The Consulting Engineer for Unison – Rockford is an expert and technology leader in aviation mechanical components with an emphasis in pneumatic air valve and actuator design and analysis of mechanical components and systems. The Consulting Engineer is the technology focal point and thought leader who drives collaboration between design teams, segment leaders, quality team and service teams for the purposes of innovative design, quality hardware and maintainability.

You will be responsible for driving rigor, technical quality, and engineering excellence by engaging with cross-functional business stakeholders to constructively manage and resolve complex issues within the various teams and meet business expectations. In this role, you will support both commercial and military programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical consultation and leadership during the design process.

  • Provide leadership and guidance in the design review process, as well as presiding over formal design reviews.

  • Communicate with business leaders and key stakeholders as needed to keep them apprised and updated on critical issues related to valves and actuators.

  • Ensure that sound design practices, methods, and related tools exist and are utilized. Approve Design Practices.

  • Lead and engage with Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) teams. Sign off on RCCA completions.

  • Champion Lean methods and culture change in collaboration with Unison Mechanical Leadership.

  • Mentor and guide technical community on system trade-off studies, analysis, and approach to ensure optimal lifecycle solution.

  • Role model identifying, quantifying, and mitigating technical risk against business risk.

  • Mentor and coach the broader technical community in this area.

  • Disseminate lessons learned across Engineering organizations and other functions.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Engineering or related discipline.

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

  • Minimum 10 years relevant engineering experience.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Significant aviation industry experience.

  • Deep expertise in valve and actuator component and systems with demonstrated success in NPI and NTI development.

  • Experience with development and design of aviation pneumatic air valves.

  • Advanced degree from an accredited university or college in an Engineering or related discipline.

  • Proven leadership (indirect and/or direct) experience with global teams.

  • Makes decisions and manages conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must be able to take ownership of issues and drive solutions.

  • Strong ability to influence others, drive change, and align cross-functional teams to success.

  • Demonstrated clear thinker – able to solve complex technical challenges and communicate actions/solutions in clear concise manner that drives impact.

  • Proven ability to work efficiently without direct supervision.

  • Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to motivate others to achieve results.
