General Electric Commercial Operation Intern in Livingston, United Kingdom

Role Summary:Operating on the front line of the software business and engaging directly with Sales, Customers as well as the internal engineering and project teams, Commercial Operations Interns will be involved in all commercial activities required to secure key projects across the customer base for GE’s advanced software solutions suite of products, which are focused on the Utilities and Telecommunications markets.

Essential Responsibilities:This is dynamic role, balancing the voice and requirements of the customer to ensure GE deliver a best in class proposal while mitigating risk and protecting the company. GE leads the world in innovative and integrated solutions for the energy utility and telecoms markets and has a strong installed based across Europe and huge potential for further growth in Africa.

Interns will be introduced to Energy and Telco domains as well as the software product portfolio. They will be guided and learn the key policies and procedures used to govern and manage the opportunities as they become visible to the business and will be guided and coached by an assigned mentor, who will provide them day to day direction and advice as they increase their own experience, knowledge and expertise. The intern will gain real world experience within a dynamic role and working with leading edge software solutions.

Essential Responsibilities

Interns will be able to use their skills of programming, innovation and engineering and are encouraged to implement new ideas, develop tools and applications or improvise our methods in projects.

The role requires the interns to get in contact with stakeholders, customers and colleagues in their day-to-day job which would require interpersonal, soft and presentation skills. Such an exposure would help the interns to hone their soft skills under our guidance and make them more adaptable and proficient as they work with the teams and become more experienced in the role.

All interns will take part in an ‘Intern Project’ over the course of their year of employment. This is an intern led, intern run project, which can be seen as a self-contained project, aimed at improving and refining various aspects of their skill set. It is intended to help build teamwork, time management and improve the overall skills of the intern within the GE work place and also benefit the company with new tools/applications/methodologies delivered. By the project. All Interns from each department take part in this and work together as a team to achieve an overall goal.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Following Degree paths accepted: Software Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar.

  • Familiarity of software and software products

  • Competent in MS Office suite of products.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • English speaking, other language skills beneficial.

  • Excellent analytical and mathematics skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

  • Good listening skills and able to take guidance and direction.
