Job Description Summary
This opportunity is for a Software Project Engineer working on our ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management Solutions) suite of products. You will configure and deploy systems to customers sites that manage electrical distribution systems as part of a committed team with a varied skill set. This may include such tasks as hardware and network installation, cyber security, data transformation, automation, scripting, interface integration, configuration, testing and training. A Software Project Engineer is expected to be adaptable and customer focused, taking responsibility for their work and ensuring that key milestones and expectations are met. Projects may range from small upgrades executed remotely to multi-year installations across remote sites.
Roles and Responsibilities
Contribute to the implementation of MES solutions utilizing the Software Suite. Own technical deliverables during the entire lifecycle of the projects. Engage throughout the full lifecycle of assigned projects, participating in decisions on architecture, design, and functionality to keep programs on track in terms of budget, time, and customer expectations. Work closely with the client to understand their needs and develop strategies tailored to their organization through site assessments. Also make standard recommendations on workflow, application, interface, reports, testing and uploads to customers through the implementation process. Is responsible for go-live readiness and support as well as post-live checkups and will be required to work collaboratively with internal team members and clients to ensure customer satisfaction
Developing conceptual knowledge of professional discipline. May include support roles with specialized expertise or technical knowledge in broad area.
Applies general knowledge of business developed through education or past experience. Understands how work of own team contributes to the area.
Resolves issues using established procedures. Consults supervisor or more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
Collaborates with others to solve issues. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Exchanges technical information, asks questions and checks for understanding.
For roles outside of the USA- This role requires basic experience in the Services & Digital Implementation Services. Knowledge level is comparable to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
For roles with the USA, the following are required:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
3+ years of experience in software services
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
Linux server administration
Windows server administration
Databases (Oracle preferred)
Scripting languages (python, perl, shell. vb)
Programming languages (C/C++/C#, Java)
DevOps automation technologies (helm, chef, Jenkins)
Automated testing technologies
Data management – data design, migration, engineering, cleansing
Willingness and ability to undertake work on client site both UK and abroad
Bi-lingual in European languages
Experience in Energy and Utilities sectors
Experience with distribution automation including SCADA and substation automation, Smart Grid, Meters and Home Area Networks, Communications/protocols in the electricity industry
