Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

As principal engineer Materials Integrity, you will be part of the Materials Engineering department at LM. The department is part of the LM Engineering & Technology organization. An essential part of your job is to ensure that our materials work at systems level and as a senior expert in the team you will be working in a highly cross functional environment being responsible for providing technical expertise for materials and their usage in our blades.

You will guide material developments, review conclusions, participate in scoping and reviews of projects where the development of new materials is an essential part and you will be the backstop on critical decisions on material related topics.

  • As a senior technical expert, you review critical designs, technical risks and you sign off on critical decisions related to materials. Youparticipate in relevant meetings such as gate-meetings, review meetings, FMEA’s etc and you give guidance and support as well as being the backstop on materials decisions

  • You have the ownership of our Material Specifications

  • In close collaboration with the Consultant Engineer for materials You ensure a cohesive and consistent process of establishing Material Specifications so there is a strong link between blade design to requirements captured in our Material Specifications

  • You define the format of our Material Specifications

  • You overlook our Material Specifications and ensure completeness by providing guidance and feedback to the people in the organization that are making Material Specifications. You have also a critical eye on our existing Material specifications and set up reviews to make quality checks on completeness

  • You review key critical deliverables in order to ensure coherence to the Materials Development process

  • You bring forward critical decisions for material performance requirements to the Consulting Engineer for materials to ensure a robust link towards blade design

  • You secure that our materials work at a systems level and ensure that the compatibility of the materials is being validated. You participate in relevant technology projects as the “materials spider in the web” facilitating collaboration between relevant persons

  • You drive the Materials Engineering Roadmap

  • You maintain the Materials Engineering roadmap and capture the need of new materials and communicate this to relevant stakeholders such as Sourcing and Supplier quality

  • You maintain an overview of critical competencies needed within Materials Engineering and map gaps in competencies

  • You provide input when new technology projects are being scoped

  • You guide, lead and champion best-practices within engineering of materials

  • You operate in a highly technical cross functional environment and proactively you maintain interfaces withthe parts of the organization where blade materials are important

  • As a senior member of the team andprinciple engineer you will inspire engineers in our team to perform and deliver best technical solutions

  • Knowledge at expert level within the area of materials for composites. The knowledge has most likely been obtained by combing a strong academic background with years of experience within the composites industry

  • A MSc degree or PhD in chemical or mechanical engineering or in Materials Science

  • Knowledge about APQP for wind

  • 15 years’ experience of combining your strong academic background with application of your knowledge within the composites industry. Maybe you have been working with a manufacturer of wind turbine blades or a supplier for this industry
