GE Power Portfolio Power Conversion Division provides Electrical power conversion systems for various Naval, Marine, Cruise Line, Offshore O&G, Metals, Power, Water, as well us upstream/downstream Oil & Gas applications. Typical scope includes the system engineering and supply of MV & LV power converters and controls, motors, transformers, E-house, switchgear, and the automation for these systems.

The Intern Engineer role is intended for students who are looking to obtain real-world practical experience.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that safety is a continuous value that is promoted both personally and in designs.

  • Integrate into the engineering/service/manufacturing organizations.

  • Support the:

  • Development of specifications based on customer Development of project

  • Development of designs and control software for variable speed drives.

  • Development of designs and software for automation projects.

  • Development of integrated system design for complex projects.

  • Manufacturing and testing of equipment in a factory environment.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Student at an accredited university in progress to obtain a BSc/MSc in Electrical engineering.

  • There will be a strong emphasis on programming. Candidates should adept at computer skills and prepared to learn the same.

Relocation Assistance:

  • Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.

Housing Allowance:

  • Co-op/Interns employees receive a weekly housing allowance to help off-set living expenses when the co-op/Intern’s permanent residence is at least 50 miles away from the work location.


  • Must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program in Electrical Engineering.

  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (without rounding).

  • Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process

  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Must be able to develop and maintain good customer relationships

  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license

  • Displays strong interpersonal skills and is accessible and approachable.

  • Excellent communicator.

  • Sense of ownership for assigned responsibilities

  • Highly motived and technically curious individual that is not afraid to show initiative.

  • Must be willing to work in geographical area specified by the business

  • Must have the ability to work in the US for an unlimited amount of time without sponsorship
