Job Description Summary

Energy Consulting, a part of GE Power, offers global clients a wide range of solutions across a spectrum of power generation, delivery and utilization. The Application Engineer will assist with the development of GE PSLF's power system simulation software packages.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Application Engineer, you will:

  • Work closely with the team to understand functionality needs for the GE PSLF

  • Develop new and extend existing visualization tools for displaying complex simulation inputs and results

  • Assist in developing software tools to improve engineering application simulation performance

  • Make recommendations on improvements to EC's computing infrastructure - hardware change outs to improve performance & productivity

  • Develop Python modules to aid in data modeling, analysis, and visualization for power system simulation

  • Assist with software build and Quality Assurance testing

  • May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require commercial knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters

  • A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills. Communication with direct colleagues and the business about design and coordination services rendered. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others


  • Bachelor’s Degree in information technology / management or related field (i.e., computer science, computer systems engineering, electronic media, engineering, physics, mathematics) from an accredited university or college

Desired Characteristics:

  • Demonstrated software development skills in C and modern object-oriented languages (at least one of C#, Java, or Python)

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with C# and Windows Presentation Framework (WPF)

  • Experience with Python

  • Experience with software build process and QA

  • Experience developing engineering software tools

  • Self-starter with the ability to lead development projects

  • Experience designing and deploying high-performance computing applications, including: Windows HPC Server job scheduler, Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services

  • Demonstrated experience developing web-based visualization tools, including: JavaScript, Django, Angular, Data Driven Documents (D3) for visualization, Pandas and other python libraries, HTML5

  • Full-stack web development

  • Demonstrated project management skills
