Job Description Summary

The Safety Leader will provide occupational health and safety support to the site to ensure first and foremost that we are keeping our team members safe. Additionally, this leader will be work closely with the business to drive implementation of programs to ensure all federal, state, and local health & safety regulatory and GE management system requirements are met. The successful candidate must be a proven leader, facilitator, and coach to bring focus, efficiency, and accelerate our occupational health and safety program execution.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ability to develop, manage and assess effectiveness of safety programs to include: Confined Space Entry, Lockout/Tagout, Line Break, Elevated Work, Hot Work, PPE, Electrical Safety, etc

  • Evaluate and update safety programs, policies, procedures, and practices to reduce/eliminate safety risks and occupational hazards, and all activities meet regulatory requirements

  • Demonstrate knowledge of processes, equipment and work practices to recognize potential hazards and provide appropriate hazard mitigation and worker protection.

  • Develop, deliver, and assess effectiveness of safety training, metrics/trends, meetings, communication, and culture.

  • Conduct worker observations and risk assessments of active work activities; provide employees with necessary coaching and motivation; and develop site communication or programs to address deficiencies and advance site safety culture.

  • Represent EHS in project reviews, incident investigations, pre-startup safety reviews, hazard reviews, contractor project reviews and kickoffs, etc. as assigned;

  • Participate in Safety and Health Management System internal and external audits;

  • Assist with accident investigations, determine root cause, and determine and implement safety measures which prevent future incidents

  • Serve as owner and technical resource for site safety issues, near miss identification, and reporting.

  • Demonstrate a level of knowledge of Safety (OSHA) regulations and recognized best practices (ANSI, AIHA, ACGIH, ASSE) pertaining to employee and contractor work in industrial/chemical manufacturing sites.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of elements of a strong safety culture

  • Exercise initiative or, as directed, perform additional duties to meet the needs of the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 6 years Health and Safety experience)

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Safety and Health.

  • Highly Hazardous/ Chemical Industry Experience

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
