Role Summary:

Baker Hughes, a GE company is currently hiring a Senior Product Development Engineer based in Houston, Texas.

As a member of the Completions and Production team, the successful candidate will lead research and product development of downhole intelligent production systems. Responsibilities include conceptualization, design, prototype and testing of downhole tools and systems.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Works primarily in Mechanical and Electrical engineering in product development, design or R&D.

  • Responsible for leading the design for multi-disciplinary projects that would include Mechanical and Electrical engineering expertise.

  • Systems design including downhole tools and subsea/surface infrastructure.

  • Sells product/solution value.

  • Plans and conducts research, design and development of standard engineering assignments.

  • Assignments can be a significant portion of a larger project. The projects will fit into a larger system design project.

  • Selects engineering techniques to solve problems and makes sound design recommendations.

  • Assesses results for applicability, validity and conformance to specifications.

  • Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters.

  • May be assisted by entry or junior level personnel.

  • Assists in project planning and review.

  • Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity.

  • Assignments are reviewed for overall soundness and adherence to stated objectives.

  • Handles special projects, as assigned.

  • Provides work direction for less experienced engineers and technicians.

  • Occasional travel

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or science

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience

  • Electromechanical design expertise

  • Good problem solving skills with a drive for results.

  • Good written and verbal skills

  • Experienced in the use of test equipment for development and failure analysis.

  • Good project management skills.

  • Ability to build peer relationships as part of a team as well as work independently.

  • Must be action oriented, ethical in value, and have a strong customer focus.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s or PHD preferred

  • Oil and gas experience a plus

  • Downhole tool design experience a plus

  • Experience leading large projects a plus
