General Electric Material Specialist in Houston, Texas

Job Description Summary

We are looking for a Material Specialist (Material Handler) to add to the Houston Service Center's Global Shop Operations team. This position will support shipping and receiving functions. The primary focus of the Material Specialist is to unload/ transport/load very expensive parts utilizing a forklift throughout the facility to appropriate locations as required in a timely manner without compromising safety and quality. In this role, you will be responsible for scanning inventory and have the opportunity to learn how to receive and package parts.

The right person will be highly organized, have a great attention to detail, and excellent communication and follow-up skills

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Ability to do and perform the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Certified to operate a forklift or ability to be certified under GE standards.

  • Ability to load/offload couriers (FedEx, UPS, DHL, Flat Bed & Box Trucks, Containers, etc...)

  • Ability to Schedule material shipping thru Courier Websites and via Telecom.

  • Ability to Properly secure material for shipment to include: Boxing, Block & Bracing of material inside Crates & Palletizing of material.

  • Ability to interpret Receiving & Shipping Documents, Repair Tags, Services Bulletins, etc.

  • Ability to complete Container Inventory and log in Smartsheet with Pictures and Documents.

  • Accumulate and process parts to ensure configuration accuracy

  • Receive, Log & Deliver WIP and OSS material to the Depot.

  • Receive and Stocking 2BIN Material

  • Log Mail and stage for Requestor Pick up. Some items will require delivery to different bldgs.

  • Support material cycle counts.

  • Support material activities and problem solving through advanced usage of Oracle.

  • Trouble shoot material related issues to include interaction with the Sourcing/Fulfillment team.

  • Identify and resolve configuration issues and systems issues.

  • Provide solutions to expected parts shortages to meet production needs.

  • Collect data, run reports, track, communicate status, and update performance metrics.

  • Track, order, inventory, organize, and maintain all types of tools, calibrated equipment, and shop supplies.

  • Responsible for ordering, shipping, receipt, & coordination with Sourcing and interact with outside vendors as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor or manager.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED

  • Minimum of one year experience in a warehouse, stockroom, or storage yard

  • Ability to be able to lift , push, and pull up to 40 pounds

  • Ability to operate a forklift over 15,000 pounds

Desired Requirements:

  • Previous Material Handling experience

  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English language

  • Advanced computer skills (Oracle, MS Excel, Shipping Tools or another warehouse management system)

  • Be able to read engineering drawings, Illustrated Parts Books, and Service and Product Bulletins

  • Capability to actively work on multiple tasks at the same time

  • Strong verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Certified in crane and rigging operations

  • Minimum one year experience with barcode scanners

  • Experience with lean action work-outs
