General Electric Lead Technical Support Specialist in Houston, Texas

Essential Responsibilities:Provide technical expertise and engineering to support the Power Conversion Service business, Technical support engineering provides design engineering capability to support the commercial and field engineering teams on Rotating Machines. Ensure that engineering and technical support is provided with accuracy, quality, and timeliness in order to meet customer needs and business goals. Support field service staff remotely on GE Power Conversion motors, generators and other related equipment problems. Support customers remotely regarding Rotating Machine problems. Retain links with the engineering teams working on current and future Rotating Machines. Provide support to engineering teams working on Rotating Machine upgrade projects. Support the bidding process for Rotating Machine upgrade prospects. Develop structured system upgrade packages to maximize engineering re-use. Provide technical support to the Service Shops and Field Services teams during outages. Identify new opportunities; drive development of effective offerings to improve in-service equipment reliability / availability. Provide technical support for new unit installation / startup and other outage work scopes. Support root cause analysis on GE Power Conversion hardware. Limited travel to customer locations and vessels to support field service staff if the problem requires expert level investigation.

Qualifications/Requirements:Bachelor's degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or Controls Engineering, and 5 years of progressively responsible post-Bachelor’s degree experience in related occupation required. The position also requires: 5 years experience with large Rotating Machines including Synchronous Motors, Generators, DC Motors, AC Induction Motors (both low voltage and medium voltage); 5 years experience on AC and DC large drive systems, including Excitation Systems; 5 years experience with hardware and software design of drive systems; 3 years experience with commissioning drive systems. 30-40% travel throughout North America to provide technical support to customer on complex GE Power Conversion systems.
