General Electric Senior UX Design Researcher in Home/Remote/Alternate, Belgium

Job Description Summary

Responsible for discovering user insights that help guide the delivery of intuitive interfaces for our users. Must be an expert in qualitative and quantitative research methods. Guiding research efforts from test planning, execution, to analysis, and synthesis. Providing your team with actionable hypotheses that can drive the development of better user experiences.

As a member of the UX team you must be an empathetic and passionate advocate for our users. In your role you will be a key collaborator in bridging the gap between user issues, customer priorities, design challenges and technology limitations.

Roles and Responsibilities

This role is all about intellectual curiosity and being a trusted custodian of our relationship with our users. Given the complexity of the issues we tackle it is important that one loves the art of discovery, enjoys analyzing complex workflows and is most engaged when solving ‘puzzles.’ Lastly, every member of the UX team must be an empathetic champion of the user communities we serve.

In this role, you will:

  • Be a highly collaborative teammate that demonstrates interpersonal savvy and fosters the best in others

  • Show prowess in engaging internal (business owner/leadership) and external (customers/users) stakeholders

  • Is self-aware and intellectually curious, always willing to look at situations from multiple points of view

  • Lead and recommend both short-and long-term research activities, guiding the creation of a research plans

  • Create and communicate research artifacts, findings, reports and recommendations with stakeholders

  • Advocate for user research and help drive buy-in from stakeholders and businesses

  • Participate in planning of research topics and usability tests and contributes to the analysis and synthesis of research findings

  • Contribute to management of usage analytics and Voice of the Customer solutions, mining usage data, and communicating findings to stakeholders

  • Participate in discussions and activities related to current research projects

  • Contribute to effective documentation of research and testing including notes, photos, video and resulting analysis

  • Begin to lead evaluation of current and emerging design, technology, industry, and market trends

Education Qualification

For roles outside USA:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with advanced experience.

  • For roles in USA: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with minimum years of experience 4 years

Desired Characteristics/Technical Expertise:

  • Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research activities such as ethnographic studies and usability studies

  • High attention to detail; extremely strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Deep knowledge and previous experience with research tools such as Morae Observer, Camtasia, Axure, InVision, and Omniture

  • Mastery of Agile / Lean UX methodologies

Business Acumen:

  • Understanding of key cross-functional concepts that impact the company, business priorities, & organizational dynamics

  • Keeps current on industry landscape; ability to map industry trends to internal vision

  • Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholder groups.

  • Understanding key principles of design thinking and research, what it is and why it is important. Explores all ideas, regardless of their source.

  • Understands that designing, validating, developing, and deploying products and services for infrastructure-level domains requires attention to complexities between systems.

Leadership:

  • Experience user-centered design process

  • Drives the measurement and continual improvement of our user experiences

  • Balancing competing objectives

  • Ability to clearly articulate research options to collaborators on cross functional teams.

  • Understands the value of a rigorous and transparent decision-making process.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and cross-business teams to assist in driving broad-reaching solutions across the function / business.

  • Ability to inspire and influence change

  • Ability to contribute to constructive conversations utilizing active listening and validating the information needs of stakeholders and users.

  • Demonstrated deep passion for learning and courage to push the boundaries of one's own thinking
